Richard. Very strange title of this article. Is it controversial that the rules were followed and director made decisions?
How funny that some teams are notoriously involved in situations like this ( late play in the important long matches) and some people believe that if they lose by getting fined its “unfair”.
They are full of experience, know the rules , getting warnings - what is unfair or controversial about it?
Btw when bridge became so difficult that 140 minutes for 16 boards is not enough? Time to find new hobby?

You love to make negative comments about other people hard work…
Try to do something yourself for a change

What is missing on Ebu's website is a forum(blog, chat, whatever) when members can address their problems, complains, thanks..
It feels like the federation doesnt wont to now. In the modern world its unusual.
If you look at this discussion there are a lot of problems to discuss and maybe we should open the place for Ebu members instead
of having this conversations on American site.

Funnily enough you could say it about all the sports and games but normal human beings talks about ethics and spirit of the game there.
So why some of us trying to make bridge so inhuman?

“Artur, I infer from your comment that you consider it sporting and proper (Tom's words) to knowingly breach one of the Laws (not an EBU regulation) of the game.
Assuming this to be correct, perhaps you could say precisely why you consider this to be an appropriate course of action.”

It sounded like a heavy accusation…
Btw Richard why dont you ever play in the tournaments and listen to the players - maybe it would help you to assess how they feel about the rules and how the rules are working.
When i read comments from you - the rule makers it sounds like you discuss the problems in pretty small and definetly too scientific group.

I do a lot of things which are not allowed too (not in bridge I thought but Mr Fleet explained to me that being nice to weaker players is illegal).

Don't believe in sending private communications to people you don't know and giving them lessons.
When you participate in a public discussion you expect opinions and criticism. If you do “private” it's usually beacause you want to have the last word and feel better about yourself.

Sorry i didnt mean to be political. David suggested in some of his comments thats the players dont understand the rules and the hard work of making them so they shouldnt discuss them.

Well the rules are produced for us to play the game and if a lot of competent players dont know them or dont understand them what about the rest..
Its nice to see that some of you got the pleasure of discussing delicate points of some regulation but try to get real go to any tournament and ask how many players know what are you talking about

Next you got hang of this type you got to pause and go through all possible layouts to find out if it's legal opening. After the hand your opponents should do the same ( you could make mistake) and if they are not sure they should've call a director to work it out. After all we don't want you to make illegal bids.

Sorry to say it but if the laws and the spirit of the game are so close to each other in your heart I can't argue with you. I never patronise others when I am better than them because I know I am lucky to be good in the game I love. And guess what - I play long enough to have my own experience ( I think you were bit patronising towards me) and opinion what make my opponents happy and unhappy. You are giving your feelings to all the others…
