Kostas, while I appreciate your passion and enthusiasm, the process is not as simplistic as you describe.

How could you possibly make that statement without knowing the full deal?

First question you must answer is: Was there Misinformation?
The answer on this one is… No!

Assuming the players have the usual agreements that 2 shows Spades + minor and 2NT would have been for the minors, then East simply misbid and N/S were not misinformed about the 2 bid, so based on the current laws they are not entitled for an adjusment.

It is possible that West got UI (Unauthorised Information) at some point, and that it affected his (or her…) choice of 5 (as opposed to 5 for example), but that was not a fact you provided.

I can foresee possible tough choices later in the auction but what bid other than 2 could you possibly seriously consider at this turn?

Simple solution to that - Don't Raise!

If the opponents bid a suit then it is no longer “Uncontested auction”.

Of course you should use the gadget with all GF hands, minimal or not.
The whole idea of this gadget is to avoid a hopeless 3NT when partner can't protect the short Major and help with Choice of Games decisions.

Stopping in 4m should never be a part of uncontested GF auctions.
Also, by making 4m Forcing you can still get to the slams that you are trying to via the misguided “only use the gadget with extras”.

Richard,

1. Declarer would still be oblivious but pleasantly surprised when the T wins the 3rd trick.
Or are you suggesting that it is merely “Careless”, but not “Irrational” for declarer to play the T under the A or K?

2. If West leads a club then the “finesse” will win.
If West leads a Diamond then there are 2 possibilities:

A. Declarer Discard a club from dummy and trumps in hand.
At this point declarer is in Hand and can't take the finesse even if they want to.
Are you suggesting they will cross with a trump to dummy and then in the 2 card end position lead a club to the Q?

B. Declarer trumps in Dummy and…
Do you suggest they discard a low trump from hand so they can take the finesse?

Yes, both claims are careless, but that doesn't automatically gives the defenders a trick which they could not get if play had continued.

Did partner have a slower route to shown a single suit and then clubs?

Just can't be sure partner doesn't have 4 clubs in which case 7 will be on a straight finesse (unless partner opened NT with 1-4-4-4 hand)

Once we decided not to bid a Grand, bidding 6NT looks much better then 6.

Partner does not have a balanced hand so we are likely on a 10 card fit.
East Passed Twice and West could only make a gentle 1 balance, which means Partner has extras.
Since I almost never Pass a 1 opening partner will know not to play me for any controls and will know my jump simply shows distributional support, nothing else.
Bidding only 2 does not describe our hand and lets the opponents compete cheaply.

The ACBL outlawing “Relay Systems” might have also had something to do with “that move to relay systems ground to a halt”…

Double dummy is easy…
Win A
to K
J followed by 2 more rounds of hearts (finnessing again if J not covered)
to J (East must pitch a Diamond)
K (Squeezing East between Diamonds and clubs - If East pitch a diamond you pitch a club and get 4 diamond tricks, after finessing the J, so East must pitch a club and you let go of the small diamond)
to J
A
K (Pitching a ) Squeezing West between Spades and Clubs - If West discard his last spade you cross to dummy's K and cash the good spade. If West discard a club then you get 3 club tricks.

What about those who are so busy recruiting new members that they can't attend the Fall NABC?

Why are you assuming that I think it’s “less” playable?
I probably think that whatever response they use to a (could be balanced minimum) 1 opening, with a balanced Yarborough that does not include a 4 card major, is as unplayable…

Does that mean you must Double with a Yarborough?
Hmmm, not sure that’s playable if properly pre disclosed to opponents…

I think Transfer/Transfer is the best defense

XX = 4+ Hearts
1 = 4+ Spades
1 = Clubs
1NT = Natural
2 = Good Diamond raise
Etc…
