Actually, we should stop tu use the word Americans, because we, here in Canada, live also in America, but not in USA. We should call them what they are, United-Statians.

Right, Kick. Will someone make the correction ? Vincent Demuy is from Montreal and his father would be very surprised to learn he is American, as he is not, by far.

I once opened 2sp. P made a series of forcing bids and we ended up in 6nt. When she tabled dummy, I asked : But what are you doing ? She said You opened 2nt !!!
Director ? :)

See it all the time in local clubs, even by seasoned players. I certainly would not lead the suit p was asking about, good or bad for us. But p would never do that :).

You can correct your bid if it was a “lapsus manu”, not a bidding error.

I am a bit puzzled. 2/1 works on M only imo, because you dont have the profit of 1nt forcing as catchall bit for hands not fitting for 2/1 GF, like Kx Qxx Kxx QJ10xx.

2nt by South shows exactly that hand : not more than 1 sp, 5-5 minor suits with good values.
You dont need 2nt to show 11 pt no-trump hand, that goes into 1nt NF by passed hd, as opener with 14 has to keep the bidding open.

I agree with Scott. Local clubs have more or less ruined our pleasure. Cliques, favoritism, unqualified directors or with a bias, impatience when you take your time, etc.

A few years back, i wrote an article entitled Philosophy in the boudoir, as per the Marquis de Sade. Here is the beginning.

Why did human being invent bridge ? Probably to give duration to sexual pleasure. Oops ? What a twisted mind. How can you talk sex when we are talking about bridge ? Seems obvious to me. As sex is limited in time, human being was forced to create other activities that would give him pleasure, but more durable. So they invented bridge. QED.
A sex session may last sometimes an hour, rarely two, tops. See, we are not far from bridge. At bridge, that incredible pleasure lasts at least three hours and a half. So between two or three tops a week in bed (I know, i exagerate, but I am a man), and 3-4 or even more each night at the bridge club, it is a no-brainer, as they say. Hurry up, lets go to the bridge club, and too bad for your harmonious personal growth and sexual development. And tops at bridge are sometimes so easy to get, you just sit there and they fall in your lap. Sex is work.

I think the main question is avoided here. What is the main question ? It is partnership harmony. The moment you allow “taking a view' into the decision making, and if the action(s) is not a success, you introduce seeds of disharmony. Partner and I have a simple rule : if we have a M fit, we play in the M. Result good or bad, we have respected the our system, so there is no room for argument nor resentment for ”taking a view“. By the way, isn't ”taking a view" mainly a man's privilege, no ? :)

I agree with Aviv. As per Fred Gitelman's suggestion, the best way to play is 1anything by opener, 2NT by responder = GF, stoppers in unbid suits, with or without M, but NT hand, not 3 Aces. If opening bid was M, then 3 card fit possible. You just have to modify Jacoby, 2♠ if 1♥ opening bid, and 3♣ if 1♠ opening bid

Kit Woolsey's suggestion : you play UDCA with exceptions. When threat in dummy (short or Qxx(x), middle is continue; lowest and highest = SP
If partner supported your suit, lead K from AK (cause you might lead A hoping for K with partner), and play same carding as before.
