In my mind, I am ok with the canape 1 call to open this (too much to pass), 2 is a convienient rebid, I prefer that to 1 then rebid of 2 to show minimum over partners expected call. 3 we have to assume is normal, 3NT is so in the grid to me, I have a hard time accepting the 4 call. If my partner bid 4 I may get carried away and cue 4 also with my Ace-less hand (assuming that pard has something like xx AKxxxx and one of the minor aces and 1 more honor in the minors- as he didnt bid 3NT. When he bids 5 - I dont get that either btw; I guess italian cue second round control? With the K I am now understanding the 6 call in south only if second round controls above game are not agreed, but if they are agreed 5 is a stretch and 5 may save the day from N, as the A is worth 1 pitch at best here. I feel this went wrong at 4 as 3NT seems a very logical call playing the “partner must have a club card” convention.

I am cashing the AS now, not for the reason given so I can't vote for that. I want to get a clear count on the hand to decide (1183 looks possible to me- but maybe 1273, 1174) so I will assume partner has q for the 2 and play accordingly aftter the spade- spade.

I am not going to be in a position to say at the end of the hand I didn't make that defensive play because I thought there was some chance that you “my regular partner” might get it wrong. The % is questionable and subjective- and if partner is smart enough to work out the defense 80% of the time in your mind (s)he is smart enough to ask you why you chose an inferior play, trust your partner. If partner is a client who will not unravel the defense is the only option for other than the best line to me.

It is never great fun when you know the hand makes 7 and that you got a world wide top Joe (wd), but Since JT8x is always a possibility in the West, and I know where 10 of the possible 14 are now (K, A, K) I could bid 6 asking partner to bid 7 with this K also and that would weigh on my mind. I think I just take the 6NT in MP and abandon the grand hope. I think in NT we will score close to the same as the 7 in MP.

I would also bid 3 with the North hand. I gave South 100% blame but if it was IMPS I would reduce it to 80-85% for south if that was an option. At the end of the day it makes sense in bridge or not. I would be rooting for 4 and pass the 3. The opponents have shown 12+9 if they are all minimum and I have 5 so my partner has max 14 in my best case scenario and shortness in C.
Pass has to be the best option for south, unless he has/felt he had some knowledge of partners tendacies that we do not.
I like 1 rather than 4 with this N hand.

Steve Bruno is obviously a Meatloaf “2 out of 3 ain't bad” fan… I like the auction until 3, with a 5cM and 3 HCP I bid my 2H and told my story, when partner passes he doesn't think there is a game opposite a minimum response, to me 3 ahead of partner there says I was right on the edge of 3 the first time and I am taking another call that will show that. South who was close to a raise the first time heard the red game angels sing, and went on to 4. You can and will say he was punishing partner but I think you can also argue that he listened to the auction, partner took 2 calls and he has a stiff in the opps suit and 16 points and 6 controls opposite what looks to me to be 7 now or a bad 8 downgraded. The Kings rate to be off but I would think partner will have some texture for 3. In North position I feel passing in IMPS is totally safe and 3 VUL is far out there. Let partner decide if we want to try for the part score swing and raise me to 3. Since he passed 2H how can my 3H bid be right?- partner has a call after me, unless I assume he doesn't have a 3 card in the bidding box or wont figure out to balance with the right hand and wont get excited with my second call.. a lot to pin on partner. I am ok with “2 out of 3” of the Heart bids.

The Kibitzer can not bring attention to the revoke. The dummy can after the play has ceased. The kibitzer can not help the dummy or any player realize by words, actions of facial expression an infraction. This is very clear in law 76B5. While it does not explicitly say that it does not take away players rights, once the infraction has been made by kibitzer the options are constrained. I think the table result has to stand. Yes it isn't good that players did not notice but It is a game between 4 players. If I can kibitz students and call their opponents infractions to their benefit at hand end, well…we all might get more coaching sessions.

Thanks I feel better knowing it was a robot. It will be far easier to reprogram that bot than the partner that passed!

West has to take the majority of the blame. East had a marginal call after 2 that many would take, but West had a 100% call as partner rates to have 0-1. Once West makes a call most East would take some move toward slam.

The jump to 3Nt should show 1. A club card or two. 2. 2H exactly. 3. Willingness to play in 3NT opposite a GF 45xx, with this hand an agreement to uncover Aces after any NT bid is good to have in the toolbox. i like to use 4C as Aces after all NT (no agreement) so when partner shows 4S=2A I will just bid 6H as 3NT jump should have the 2H. If i don't have that agreement in place then I think 5H will get the point across, as 4H will only confirm a 46 56 distribution and GF but not the full value of the hand. Partner will pass or correct 4H only.

To me the snapdragon x is where the hand went wrong. I like snapdragon, Bidding Clubs would show no tolerance for , (Tolerance defined as Hx or xxx) and a biddable suit of my own at the level I am on. (x would show both) To me I am not going to bid 2 ever with rag 5 to the 9 and a soft 12 that counts as 9/11 on the 2 Level so snapdragon is out. I am guessing than many non precision pairs are opening 1 as the openers values are surely in the black suits. Bidding the 4 card suit is just going to bring trouble. I would pass and see what develops, or squeeze a 2 underbid to show a sign of life.
And the end pass is the only alternative that makes any sense to me, the rest seem like assisted suicide in imps. We are probably losing this hand but if lucky partner has 4 and short and can beat it.

I think a pre alert is required for this method, and making this a “secret balance technique” - which might be successful in some cases, to me is illegal, and I agree with others this seems that it can/will be self destructive when opponents understand the implications. So when I pass rather than make a game try (14/15) or bid game 17/19, when you are red and just wait to double your forced balance seems in order… I am not agreeing to play this pard…

We used to be able to do this online directly from the Appended Overall Results (BUL). That was exactly how I found my friends games. 1 step before now we wait for the .pdf and search it.

Yes but specifically 2nd from bad suits and 4th from good suits in NT and 3/5 against suits. In 3NT 5 to the Ace I think I will mislead with the 9.

I think the experience really depends on the level of play. Lousy comment maybe. My lead agreement in NT is 2/4 so the 9 is out as partner will never put the A in my hand. If my agreement is 4th best I *may* still choose to lead the top of the sequence depending on my partners level, at the end of the day once it is clear that it is impossible to be truly 4th, I may play the 20 questions as declarer..and say would you lead the top of a sequence and abandon 4th best? I'm betting you get an I don't know answer-Clearly you might work out stiff K this way, either way you have 2 Spade tricks. The real question and issue is that people are not trained until at very high levels to be fully forthcoming about agreements, and when advancing they truly have no agreement that they understand to be solid, today they may lead the 9 tomorrow they may lead the 5 and still say 4th best-because thats the box that they checked with partner. That little check box just tends to reinforce that. So if your event was the Vandy/Spingold I may protest. If it was a regional Pairs down, I would just agree with Kit on “thats life” if I have to probe and give away info.
