You can't handle the truth! …. I forget the movie, but I remember the actor :)

It was a K.O. match and we had just finished the pre-alerts and carding discussion with each pair briefly studying the others convention card. I think the question was probably just habit, but when I discovered declarer had the ten I grimaced inside. After reading the above comments I've learned the question is appropriate and normal.

Partner bid 4 spades with a 5 card spade suit. I'm not sure a negative double applies here. We do play negative doubles with our 2 club openers.

It would still be difficult for me to bid 4 spades on a three card suit or honor doubleton?

….and yes the director was called. It was a club game. He just said everyone should calm down and be quiet. He was correct as far as that aspect was concerned.

I didn't alert 2H and my right hand opp was livid when dummy didn't have four hearts. I honestly thought my partner had five spades and four or five hearts and two hearts was non forcing. Righty accused me of lying about my expectation and had a tizzy fit. He has since apologized, but it was an example of why I wonder if I have spent way too much of my life playing bridge. :)

You described what happened. Partner thought I should bid five clubs. He didn't feel strongly about it, but thought so nonetheless. He bid a five card spade suit, so I thought he took the '“hopeful fit” concept too far.

I thought, because of the take out double, partner's bids showed spades and hearts and was not forcing. Others have told me the 2 heart bid should be thought of in fourth suit forcing terms not necessarily promising hearts.

I've been using Jordan to distinguish four card limit raises from three card, but I have to talk to my partners about the 4-card major opening….thanks, good reminder.

I've been meaning to ask this :). What does abstain mean? I often abstain, but don't know what I'm doing.

We could have income equality if no one had any income. That's the effect of central planning?

I think you spelled his name wrong…..just saying.
