Thanks for the comments, I'd never heard of or seen Leaping Michaels in action before yesterday. Looks like a good thing to know.

NO! If you're playing Leaping Michaels, then a Q bid of opener's suit asks for a stopper in that suit.

Ken,
Would a 3 cuebid by South be an alternate way of indicating the nature of her hand. It should show hearts and a minor.

I believed 8 or 9 tricks were available because when there is an unbalanced hand at the table there is usually more than one. Also opposite a weak 2 opener it is quite possible for west, a passed hand, to have the values for a 4 spade bid. Had I known about Leaping Michaels, I would have done something. Thanks for the tip.

I interpret the hand analysis box like pirates interpret the Pirate's Code. “They're more like guidelines”. Rather than beating partner up for not finding the optimum spot, they suggest altenate pathways to bidding the same hand for different results. Everything comes down to table presence – if you can't do it at the table then it doesn't matter.

3NT. Responder cannot have a 4-card major, so there is no future there. This hand is headed for 3NT if responder has a 6+HCP balanced minimum, so just bid it. Best case would be 5 or 6 diamonds to the KQ. If he has more will he push on? Some will and some won't

The problem with the scoring method is that it is nearly impossible to predict where any given action will land you. Bidding and making game can give the opponents a couple of IMPS. Beating a contract for 200 to 500 can give the opponents a couple of IMPS.

You have to believe your partner that there is no place to run, and you may have to take some lumps.

To make 7 with a potentially unreachable dummy seems like a stretch. Even if you lose the K, odds are you can drop the J, assuming partner has xxx for his 2 response.
