Congratulations to the winners and to the second place team! The difference was so small, it was clearly a well played match.

I played against Margie most recently at the San Diego NABC, where she and Ira Herman (a frequent partnership) were playing the Blue Ribbon Pairs. It is a deal from the New York regional many years ago that I remember most fondly, however. Not only was Margie a fun opponent at the table, the deal made the NY Times (while Margie was named, I was only “South”). The article can be found here: https://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/02/crosswords/bridge/bridge-reisinger-knockout-teams-at-eastern-states-regional.html

BBO and a few others already offer bridge as an online game. We don't need to involve Blizzard, but it might be possible to incorporate a platform like Steam. They have games from many companies. That's a partnership to suggest.

I think double dummy problems are extremely interesting. Isn't it the goal to play every real hand double dummy by picturing the hidden hands after drawing inferences from the auction and play? Of course, it's impossible, but it's still the goal to achieve as best we can.

For a club game, a procedural penalty seems to me excessive. I find simply taking a board away to be a sufficient motivator.

I think it should be paired with volleyball – 4- or 6-person teams playing one another.

@Nikolay Demirev

Colonel Flagg: I've got to nip this guy in the bud. This sort of behavior is contagious, you know. One guy decides he's not gonna fight anymore, it catches on, and pretty soon you know what we've got?

Dave, I believe actions speak louder than words. :-)

It seems clear from the actions around the table that these are novice players. Perhaps using this as a teaching moment, rather than assessing every penalty the laws allow, would go farther in helping them understand what went wrong and in encouraging their enjoyment of the game for the future.

I am a proud picker. Too often I see grabbers scatter their bidding cards across the table and the floor. I think grabbing should be a privilege awarded to those who demonstrate competence with a bidding box. :-)
