3N could be right if partner has lots of spots ala KQTxx KQJ9 AT9x but I like our chances better in 5D if partner has a good control hand. I still need a lot for game on the misfit so I try 4D.

3H boxes the auction so I negative double and bid 3N if partner bids something besides hearts.

There may be fireworks if I don't show my hand type immediately so it's a 3D fit-showing jump for me. Not perfect but best of a bad lot at these colors.

I play these raises as good controls or good trumps. Partner should be able to figure it out.

It's a nice hand on a 30 point deck.

Playing Precision I open 1S especially at these colors.

I'm worried that 4S could be misinterpreted as long spades and a modest hand. That leaves 4D as the slam try in clubs.

The only thing scary I see is partner passing 1SX which is remote on the 1 level in front of the spade bidder. I'm happy to bid 5D next chance I get if the opps are in 4S.

In my early 20's I had a pulse rate of 39 and I still got tired and sloppy playing multi-day events.

As I play I'm very unlikely to have 2 hearts if I bid 3D or especially 3S. 3H by partner would now be a suit playable opposite a singleton.

If I have a singleton heart then I don't bid 3H. With a 6133 I bid 3D with Jxx or Axx else I bid 3S or 3N. Give partner KJTxxx in hearts or better and my heart support is fine. With Qxxxxx I don't think partner is going to be excited about playing in hearts.

Partner can still bid 3N over 3H. To me 3D is either the ace trying to rightside 3N or a partial stopper Jxx or Qx. It is not Tx.

Partner didn't double 2H so I'll take my chances on a 30 point deck hand and try 5D.

I don't see what 3D accomplishes that 3H doesn't.

I have a reputation as an active balancer but otherwise quite sound. Why should I bid out of character when partner's hesitation only showed values that the auction made apparent?

I gave up hiding 6 card majors in the 70's.

The opponents are looking to hang themselves so I pass and let them continue. Why rescue them? However at the club Friday opps twice passed a forcing bid.

I think Henry's point below is valid that the auction is a bit suspicious but I have to admit I would have bid 3C even if it could work out badly.

My partners will strain to bid 2S with 5+ spade length and 2S with 4+ HCP and 4 spades so I'm not inclined to play the 3-3 spade fit.

The lack of an unusual NT should give partner a good idea of our relative shape in the minors.
