Thank you for posting this beautiful hand. It's hands like this that keep me playing this game.

West throws the ace of spades…

Interesting.

There are plenty of professionals and other ringers playing in the 10K events. It makes little difference.

There are also some North American GLM-eligible pairs with less than 6K points, why should they be excluded from 6K events just because they have had success?

Is this sarcasm?

There are multiple ways to win gold points at clubs.

I've seen bots give count with cards that would win tricks.

East would not cuebid clubs with that hand. With your hand, the auction might go 1-2-2-2-3-3-4-4, now it's clear there's no club control.

With the actual hand it might go 1-2-2-2-3-4-RKC, the club control has been shown.

You don't need Last Train or Frivolous to get to 6.
Start with 1-2-2-2, then when East cuebids clubs West asks for key cards and bids the slam. West's hand explodes in value once spades are agreed.

Declarer has an interesting choice of lines of play. Of course he has to win the A.

Then:
1) Take immediate spade finesse, claim if it wins. This risks going down a lot.
2) Cash AK, spade to K, run diamonds, club finesse if the Q hasn't appeared.
3) Cash AK, spade to K, run diamonds, club to A if the Q hasn't appeared.
4) Spade to K, run diamonds, J to Q, claim if it wins.

I think I like line 3 the best. If a finesse wins, so what, but if a squeeze works, oh my!

First overall in the 10K pairs paid 80 points with 10% platinum. I like your suggestion for the point awards for the robot game, it seems like a good compromise.

I do want to see some kind of stratification in this event in the future as B players have zero chance in this game.

A top award of say 80 platinum points plus having overalls for B and C strata (with gold points) might encourage more participation.

Thanks for posting. There were some nice insights. People should be able to study what you did right and wrong and improve their results.

I see the final number of entries as 2768. I got top 10 but was lucky. Today, not so much.

It looks like the number of people who actually played on the first day was 2611.

It looks like they have increased the number of section placings.

“The award payout for the NABC Online Individual has been significantly increased. Possibly due to the large number of players who have indicated their support of the event by registering, ACBL has just confirmed an increase in the total number of awards, to 67 places for each daily session and 187 places for the overalls.”

Another (simpler) line:

Three trumps and spade to the 9. If that loses, play K and diamond to J.

You'll make if the double spade finesse wins or if the diamond finesse wins.

The line would be ruff, A, ruff (king doesn't fall), A, then Q discarding spade if not covered? This might be an improvement.
