SIDE TOPIC:
Did you notice this in the letter?

“Assuming the ACBL Masterpoint Committee recommendations are passed on the second reading in November, we will be showcasing a new Gold Rush format in Sarasota-Manatee. This new event allows a three-flight stratiflighted structure which will allow players with over 750 to play in a more comparable field before they join the A/B flight.”

So now 800 MP's is not enough to play in an open?

If you want a forum only, the 2+2 Poker Forum maintains a backgammon forum. Bill Robertie is the moderator and posts often. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/138/backgammon/

Does this mean we are stuck with the line printers for another 30 years?

Andy Stark's book is quite good and is written mostly on 12-14, but can easily be adapted to 10-12. It even discusses this. The same system works. My regular partner and I play 12-14 NV all seats and use the same system as described in the book (two-way Stayman, 2H/2S/3C/3D natural, DONT runouts, etc.)

Thanks. I hope you find the research. Otherwise, I might have to assume they do little to none of it.

David:
What marketing activity do you see the ACBL undertaking to attract young players? The Youth movement is good, but seems small compared to other programs. For instance, a friend of mine is a grade school teacher who developed the most successful School Scrabble club in the state. Children play scrabble as a team of two people (competing against another team of two people) and love this!

It is somewhat concerning that I don't see a bigger push for these types of activities in favor of just attracting empty nesters.

I would appreciate if people (in general, not pointing fingers at Jonathan or anyone) would stop saying it is “easy to cheat” online. This statement discredits my entire field and all people that work in any sort of “Big Data / Analytics.”

I suspect it would be very easy for me to write algorithms that detected probable cheating. Such work is exactly parallel to what we Analytical Marketers do and what my colleagues in Fraud Detection and Risk do. Lots of data, use industry knowledge and statistics to detect patterns. Identify targets that follow the pattern.

Thanks - just my two bitcoins. (inflation adjusted)

I know absolutely nothing about MTG. What did they do right that makes F2F so popular over online (if that exists)?

The 0.54 online I received the time I beat Leo meant a lot more to me than whatever I received for first OA in any 299er…. :)

F2F games of all kinds are dying and have been since television and the internet. It doesn't take my PhD in marketing to know that a business model that relies on having successive generations of 55+ year olds replacing dying ones is bad business. The ACBL must understand this to thrive.

Embrace technology, don't fear it. As mentioned earlier, poker did it right.

Agree with Jeff and Jeff.
This goes against the entire “game within a game” idea. Who cares if they get 50.1% or 49.9%?
