Bob has been outspoken about this in the district newsletter. Good for him.

Jim: I kept hearing that the people who come will stay all week. Maybe so, but in that case there are just a few of them.

The Gold Rush table counts are getting hammered.
The Sunday Swiss at SD had 43 tables. Yesterday had 15.

I’m pretty happy to give to Caesar for healthy plants, especially Romaine.

Looks like there are SIX tables in the Saturday Gold Rush pairs, down from 24 1/2 last year.

Dan
That’s the 299er.
The open pairs at 3pm had 21.5. Still a massive drop from 41.

Ps. Looks like SD”s 3pm 299er had 18 tables, so 9 is a big drop from that.

The 299er seems to have done the same as last year.
I suppose we will see how many gold rush tables there are.

I just checked the Friday 10am open pairs. 22 tables, down from 42 last year.

Wow
24 teams in 2016 and 10 this year. What’s the IRR on that?

How many nationals lose money?
Did anyone organizing this national ever think this one would not be in the red?

I guess they finally tried to see if Sitters Unlimed of Hawaii actually exists, instead of referencing an old webpage.

I found this website when I googled the sitter. When I clicked on the link, it took me to Walmart.com to buy a slide.
To me it sure looks like the ACBL made zero effort to see who the Hilton recommends. Another thread mentioned the company’s phone is out of service. I wonder if the ACBL saw this page and stopped there?

Was anyone else surprised by this? Most entry level corporate positions receive far more resumes and do far more interviewing than this.
>>
Cuneo says the Search Committee performed a detailed rating process on the 21 resumes received – 12 of which came in response to notifications which appeared in ACBL publications and 9 of which were submitted when the position was posted on websites such as LinkedIn and ExecuNet.

The committee then invited six of the candidates for a video interview of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours in duration.

Looks like they are one one of the Hilton’s webpages, but closed. See my reply below.

I clicked on the link to Sitters Unlimited Hawaii here and it took me to Walmart to buy a slide.

My opinion, not the right time for a “finance guy.” We need an “out of the box innovation guy (or girl).”

The website has updated their “story.” Seems that they are throwing the Comptons under the bus.

Child Care

For those attending the Honolulu NABC requiring child care, the Hilton Hawaiian Village recommends Sitters Unlimited of Hawaii; (808) 674-8440.

In the past, child care services at NABCs have been provided by Donna Compton, who administered the program independently. The ACBL provides supplies and space. We are extremely grateful to Donna for making this program possible for many years.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village requires proof of liability insurance for child care services to be offered on their premises, and made ACBL aware of this three weeks ago. While the ACBL was open to purchasing the necessary insurance rider — and had, in fact, obtained the necessary paperwork and forwarded it to the Comptons for completion — Chris Compton suggested cancelling the program because only one family had signed up. He indicated they would contact that one family and make alternate arrangements.

We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the program.

Because the Comptons have chosen to stop administering the child care program, the ACBL is evaluating provision of the service at future NABCs. There are no arrangements in place for the Spring NABC in Memphis.

“Attendance at Nationals is declining.”
“I have a solution, let’s tell another segment of players we have no interest them attending!l

This whole thing sounds very family unfriendly and it appears that a large ball was dropped with no one caring enough to pick it up.
Aren’t there any higher-ups at the ACBL or on the BOG that are women of child raising age? Yes that was a leading question.
