I am not too crazy, must have diamonds, some values and want to mention a major I happen to have. I didn't open a weak 2 so all this makes sense. Non constructive bids like this seem self destructive.

I love Bridge Winners! I find I bid more than average and yet have a rep for being VERY conservative! On this hand I have a very good hand in 3 suits and the right defense. I don't hang partners and expect recipical behavior! I believe that opening will be over average in the long run so I open 1D without too much thought. Over a 1H response, I bid 1 spade too :) Maybe I am joining the younger generation!

It seems silly to bid 2D using the methods described…15 and a non fitting 11 seems aggressive. I would try 2H or 2N as a constructive move, at the first opportunity.

I agree! A first for me with Hendrik. I would bid 4S the first time and put the pressure and decisions on the opponents. It follows the theory of preemption even though this is not a pre-empt.

With their “normal ”pace and the others tempo should not be a determining factor unless, imho, the re are screens and abnormal pace from screen mate.

3H, with me, shows solid trumps and 7-8 winners. This is what I have. I pass but know that a slam is possible.

Rusult merchanting is a fatal disease. Partners and team mates will move on if they are wise. Maybe you should too. “Experts” are not immune from this disease.

Hendrik has seen too many of my hands! I am an 8-4 believer and a 5H bidder.

I open 2C and rarely do so. The triggers for me are the controls and suits. Not all points are equal! 19 pts but mass controls and tricks. I do not play below game after 2c-2d-2of any suit so that is not an issue. I would be in game opposite: J xxxx xxxxx xxxx. Not asking too much. If I open 1S, I am likely declaring 3C or 1S. I do think this is a good discussion hand for partners to define thier “styles” on 2C openers.

I get more from a single hand discussion in MSC than an average session of bridge. Seems to me to be a pretty good forum for development! You are right that there are few “right answers” but then it is not the answers, but the questions that interest me most!

Partner can see their hand and the vulnerability. I have an extra heart but no more. I will pick a different battle to fight.

In most of my partnerships M raises are constructive and usually only 3 card. I would have made a game try if righty had been quiet, so I believe that we are behind but doubt that 5H plays so I use the partnership blame card…I dbl. I don't really know we can beat it or make 5H. I do know we have the balance of power. If partner passes, I lead a trump.

Poker is not a card playing game, it is a betting game. The keys to success are in knowing odds and betting effectively. Poker players therefore would prefer non disclosure. Bridge is a card playing game and is partnership based so the “secrecy” would have much greater adverse impact on the game. Each game has it's appeal and has a broad base of rules and proprieties that have evolved, over time, to enhance the games.

Basically need 4 cover cards for my 7 losers, and some cover cards won't help enough! Even three is not a percentage contract a lot!

South 95% Not sure what they were doing. It is not that any single action was egregious (well maybe 4NT) but the total was. Below game I find it best, especially in competitive situations, to have extras so an initial 2S seems enough (partnership discussion) but over 3C, 3nt stands out. Slams are important but games win matches.
