unfortunately, the hands when I want to play 3NT partner will pass over 3. So if I believe 3NT is the most likely game I must bid it now myself

Why: after 1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 3 / 4 West almost has enough to just bid 6

I think 4 should be last train and not a cue bid. However do not try it undiscussed

I feel stongly that when playing with screens you should always ask for and get a full written explanation of all bids. There is no risk and it avoids all problems. The rules should be changed to state that at the end of the auction with screens a full disclosure should be given in writing, and then we would have far fewer questions to discuss.

And secondly all serious events shoudl be played with screens - as they are where I live

What about 4-1. It is almost 50% the J is missing, so we only have 84% that the suit is coming in.

Hallo Rainer,

I agree that you will not catch the weak no trump often. I think the idea of initially passing with a strong balanced hand is however correct, and pass then double just shows a balanced hand with 15+ points. It is certainly less dangerous to pass then double rather than overcall 1NT immediately.

Do not double - I have no defence to 4 of a minor.
Do not bid 4 - 10 tricks will not be made.

On a practical level, once I decided that the 4 bid was impossible, I would bid 4NT and hope that partner has 2 aces for spades, as I know that he will not pass 5

3 should show a doubleton heart honour with a fit - a hand that has got better because of the 2 bid

3 was to ensure the correct lead against 3NT.

Not really a fair comparison, as usually every team on the old scale got 5 points. So 21-9 should be considered as 16-4, which is four times.

An advantage of a confident 6 is that it may provoke a 6 sacrifice

I think a format for open lead polls would be really useful. In Bridge World they discuss bidding and opening leads with the panel - and these are good. Play and defence I cannot really see.

I do not think a rating system is a good idea - and why should anyone be interested what one's rating is?

We have a wonderful format for discussions and getting opinions and do not need to change it

I think that one must be clear what a forcing pass means.
A forcing pass implies that we would have made the last contract and that we are certain that the oppositions contract will go down.
Here the contract should never be passed out, as we want to sacrifice if the contract was making.
So I pass, and hope that partner will bid 6 if he does not have 2 defensive tricks.
