What would 1 followed by 3NT show?

It is also an issue what was Wests normal tempo. If he is inexperienced, he may think after every jump bid. Also East bid may have well been normal for his skill level. I would be inclined to let the result stand.

It is difficult as I know the hand.
I think a will be returned most of the time, so I would run the lead to the jack and play for either Q coming down in 2 or hook.

With KJ of diamonds on the table, if West continued spades, he would expect declarer to play safe and finesse him for the Q.
So he gave me a losing option. I play West for the Q

Please do not blame the DBV laywer. Courts around the world make ridiculous rulings - although this one surprised me as well. The DBV has 4 weeks to decided whether to appeal.

If anyone is to blame, it is players like Nedju and myself who felt we were being robbed, but did not gather enough evidence.

As the DBV has an effective monopoly on competitive bridge in Germany, we must comply to legal restrictions that would not apply if there were alternatives.

This is seriously bad news - also financially for the DBV which is not rich.

You need King und Queen onside, plus reasonable breaks in the minors. I think sensible is an overbid

Hi Jeff,

When I played against the German doctors, they always seemed to get the tricky decisions right, and I could not understand how. Without screens, they had eye-contact which explained a lot.
I thought something was not fair and felt robbed, but I did not know.

My question:
Did you know that the cheats were getting better results than their bridge skills?
Did you know that they were cheating?

And what can we all do to keep our game clean and fun?

Thanks

If the player bid in his usual tempo, it is irrelevant whether this is 2 or 20 seconds. There is no BIT.

I hope that the standard will be in future.
You must play in such a way it is clear to all that you are not cheating.
The top players have a responsibility as role models - and if the spacing in the bidding boxes is uneven, it is normal to correct before pushing through the screen.

North is closer to 6 than pass over 5. South can see partners void as well and should never pass.

Always play the man would could have bid at the one level for trump length, if you have no other argument. With 6-7 Hearts East might have bid

Why not simply a bidding poll?

The main point Artur was making has got lost in the discussion. We all know opponents that if they do not win a board at the table try to win it from the TD. This behaviour is one of the factors driving players away.
It is a challenge for the lawmakers to design the laws in such a way that this is not easy, and the whole bridge community should discourage such behaviour

Judy,
Nobody deines that Bobby is one of the world's great who have contributed much to the game as a player and an administrator. Please do allow others to have a different opinion who have contributed less.
Of course we will teach bridge with standard, simple systems. There will continue to be events with system restrictions. I will continuous to play my natural system. However I would love to test my skill against FERTS.

How about 3 doubled as the final contract. What would have happened if I had been East.

You must inform the opponents. The same way Michael Rosenberg alerted Zia's game tries.

This answers the question about alerting exclusion blackwood when partner may have xx.

The bid ask me how many Aces outside the suit and is usually made with a void. In the past my partner has made the bid with xx.
