I dislike the word crime for the heart switch. Crime should be reserved for what Fantunes did.

The case is against the DBV and the WBF. The case against the WBF in Switzerland is being handled by the German courts (some sort of legal agreement).

So if the doctors win, it is of interest to all members of the WBF.

Redouble led to 2 led to 1400 for the bad guys.
The 1 bidders would do better whether they stayed in 1 or ran to 2.

Chuck was pretty good at guessing partner's shape, but way off in guessing the right contract.
Playing in 1 XX would be 2200 to the bad guys.
Playing in 2 was only 1400.
As it was, the best spots were 1 and 2 - Bridge is not an easy game.

West gave misinformation. He should have said no agreement, and a guess.
The question is whether the misinformation led to the 5 bid.
I believe that South assumed a 9 card fit from the 3 bid, so would always have bid 5 irrespective of the description.
So i agree with the ruling, but the poll should be conducted with the information that 3 promises 4 card support.

I am sure that Boye would not want anyone to have faith in him because he is Boye, rather in every case everyone should make up their own mind.
I have no reason to believe that any of Boye's attacks have been suspect, and I fail to see what is wrong with his tactics.
I believe that a campaign for better ethics is required - as Michel Rosenberg suggested in his excellent book. As I do not know what the incidents are that Boye refers to, I cannot make an informed comment on them.

Disciplinary proceedings against P/S are being taken by the DBV (German Bridge Federation). This process will not be fast as all the people involved do this in their spare time - however in my opinion a full account of when and how they cheated should be a prerequisite for the reduction of the sentence.

I think we should be very clear that Gawrys is entitled to bid 4NT. He may have judged at the time that it was an obvious bid - there is nothing unethical in doing this.
However the director should have rolled it back to 4, and as David Gold has said, this is an easy ruling.

The risk of the 5 bid is that it makes it easier for the defence. Kit, how do you value bidding 5 for the chance of making 6 against the added risk of going down in 5?

I do not think he handled the doctors as badly as many appear to think. He did not communicate what he was doing very well.

1) He tried to get the hearing of the case changed to a date where he could appear.
2) Upon receiving the evidence he appointed a team of top German players to investigate the accusations and suspended the doctors.
3) The players investigating all found that the doctors were guilty.
4) The doctors were then banned for 10 years.
5) The case is now going through the German legal system.

The only clear mistake IMHO was not giving back the title of Senior World Champion voluntarily.

Remember that all penalties will have to be stand up to an appeal in a court of law. Thus a life time ban is probably unrealistic, at least in Germany.

Screens are great. I do not see my partners face. It makes it much easier for me to remain ethical. It is much more relaxing.
That they are not sufficient to prevent crooks is a different issue.

I think it is very unlikely that the IBF knew that FS were cheating. The German Bridge Federation did not know that the doctors were cheating.
With hindsight it is very easy to say that they should have known.
So yes, Israel should withdraw. And no, they should not be bnned from international competition at all.

but maybe with the same hand and Q, East would have X 2 to protect his score of 120 from 1NT

If declarer has A8x then you should lead small from QJxx most of the time. How can you know declarer has the 9?
