I am not drawing trumps at all but lead a diamond immediately.

Theoretical question. You'll do it every time it comes up, unless the dealer is told not to deal singleton controls.

I'd bid 3 on 1, 2 and 8, bid 4 on 5 and pass with the rest.

Well, I can't correct that mistake now but doubler's actual hand was: KQ8x, 108xx, AK, AJ10.

I am sorry at losing your vote. If once we happened to play together I would agree to play these doubles for penalty.

I was reluctant to show the whole hand as it makes evident that partner made a mistake. That was not my point. I felt that maybe I had made a mistake too not rescueing to 3.

It is more probable that overcaller has it, the more so as his hearts do not look particularly strong.

3. As a club lead is looming, we should make sure partner is declarer with Qx.

2. I'd rather step on the brake later than try to convince my partner that I have 7 controls.

Is your 3 bid here take-out of spades?

Pass. Classic penalty double situation. We are going to collect 500-800. Lead: Q.

That said, I might have bid 1 at my first turn but I don't want to spoil the party.

Thanks for the votes.

I held this hand and I chose the majority vote of 4. The successful bid, however, would have been the double. Partner held: xx, K109x, AKQ, AKJx.
You can see the whole hand here (I was pair no7): http://bridzs.hu/result/5154/5326/19imp1b08-6.htm

If they did not bid 5 and parner bid 5, would I have passed? If yes, I bid 5 now, if not, I bid 6. The situation hasn't changed.
I'm bidding 6 anyway. If partner has A, fine. If not, they may lead the wrong ace.

I chose the first answer but I don't think I'll need 4 spades to penalize them, in fact I think 3 cards would be typical in this situation.

I might have bid 5 as North at my 1st turn but I would have certainly not passed 5 with the exceptional South hand. After all, North thought he'd make 5 facing wasted heart values.
