Declarer's hand was QT764, 4, J42, A985. If he plays the nine over the eight, he is home. After the jack he still can make double dummy but rather unlikely he would do that.

I think Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead couldn't play bridge but their scene was pretty awesome from Fargo.

Even some of the episodes had titles taken from bridge.

I didn't say it's a better line. Just that East can be squeezed in some possible layouts. He can be squeezed even without a heart guard.
Give him 64,65,J76432,AQJ. In this case the heart lead is automatic.
Just take the lead in hand. Enter dummy with a spade and play a club. If East takes his ace he can't break up the simple minor squeeze as dummy still has the heart entry. If he ducks he will be finished by a funny strip squeeze thanks to the lucky lie in the minors.

I wouldn't say it's a better chance but there are probably a lot of legitimate hands where it can be made. For example East having 6,T95,JT6432,AQJ (I tried to change the hands as little as possible). Just take the lead in hand and pull trumps save one.
-,K8,AQ95,9
3,2,8,K642
is the seven card ending. If East discards a club then diamond to the ace and a club. If he keeps 2-2-3 all the diamonds are high. In case of 1-3-3 diamond ruff, heart to dummy, cash diamonds and club up. And if 0-4-3 heart finesse followed by club.

This isn't the only holding when you're wrong. If West has Qxxx in hearts you'll go down as well (ruffing the next spade high, of course).

Group C is obviously the weekest of the three and group assignments should be transparent. Both is clear but probably these are the only things I agree with.
Counting average of masterpoints seems almost as bad idea as randomly putting together the groups. Masterpoints doesn't measure strength. They are more or less numberizing medal tables. (ELO in chess is measuring the strength of the players, for example, and perfectly good to rank teams by average). And with differences much bigger at the top it is completely usuitable for averaging (some kind of logarithmic average would be acceptable) Which is the stronger threesome? Monaco, Qatar and Hong Kong or Germany, France and Sweden.
The other problem with counting the team members' masterpoints is that it distorts in favour of countries which sends nearly the same six players each year. I guess the only solution for this is to depend seeding on the country's results not the current players (which is normal for team sports I guess).
Imagine a team with only five or four players. They would add a player to the team with the most masterpoints in the country even if he wouldn't go just to get a better seeding.
Another important factor is the aim of the Olympiad. I guess it's not only to determine the best team (that's the Bermuda Bowl) but to meet with players at the table from other Zones as well. That's why it's a good idea to have the same number of European teams in each group.

Got it. So apart from the next palyer's body language it works. Will Ccrd play be the same? The last two cards appears together?

Bernard, regardless of the software you see your opponents. So you see when they touch their device.

Maybe I miss something, but with this solution the players know who is thinking so we loose the most important advantage of screens. Back to the UI jungle.

In Hungary there used to be an annual combined chess-bridge event running for about 10 years. It was always won by chess players if I remember correctly. It's due to the higher random element in bridge.

For example this is declarer's hand: QJx,HKQxx,DKQxx,Kx, or something similar (without the spade jack for example). When you duck declarer simply goes after hearts. Of course a the heart ten can be important.

Why would East duck? If clusb are 6-2 he would want to use his entry before partner gets in. Even with 5-3 he knows there's future in clubs West may think that declarer has 3 and abandon the suit.
