Agree - that's the only way to avoid giving UI in these situations.

Bridgebase have their inn app downloadable from the app store. It's completely different from the web version, but works pretty well.

Slightly disagree with 2. Would doble now to show extra strength.

If declarer has Qxx, I need to switch at trick two, else a heart can be discarded from dummy. Give partner the king and either Q or a diamond trick. A diamond switch can be very dangerous. Trumps can wait.

Strongly prefer Walsh over the alternatives listed. Miss transfer response, though - have played transfers for 6-7 years, am very comfortable with that.

In s former partnership we played transfers after1 (2).
A negative doble promised two places to play. There's an article on this in BW, maybe 6-7 years ago.

Agree, I'd definitely raise to 3 with this.

I prefer Vinje leads, but nobody play that…. Thus, I use standard honor leads. From length I prefer Norwegian leads;lowest from odd number, 3rd from 4-card suit and 3rd lowest from 6 (or 8).

Can't see a sequence to a diamond partial. 4S is easily defeated.

Either 2S transfer to diamonds and pass 3C, negative.
Or 2S - minor suit Stayman, and 3D over 2NT ( diamond preference), pass over 3 C.

I guess most people would lead the ten, as is also suggested by the comments here.

In these situations I'd try to figure out what's more important for partner to know. And I'm pretty sure that my number of spades in general will be the most important information for partner. So leading the 8 followed with the 9 is easy to read, as to my number of spades. I'd also lead the 8 from J98, of course. And might still mislead partner if he can't see the jack on the first two rounds of spades.

Anyway, leading the ten isn't a clear message either, since I'd also lead the ten from any Tx.

Totally agree with those who would bid 3S (or 2S earlier).

Henry:
At what level do you want to be able to play in a major? Not at the 2-level, unless you can pass and balance with 2S natural over 2H-p-p I suppose.

@Christina: Most experts today play this unassuming cuebid as INV+ with support for openers suit.

3C is a free bid, that's for sure. But it's far from obvious that it should force to game. If so, we'd not have this discussion.

For me this sequence shows an invite with a good 5-bagger or a 6-card suit. With the example hand, opener have to pass 2H.

In most partnerships I play that 2C…2NT shows an invite with support for the opening suit, wheras the direct 2NT denies support. However, I'd prefer to have all invites going through 2C and let 2NT be a puppet to 3C. That allows me to show all 55+ GF hands by jumping to the 3-level and use the 2NT-puppet to 3C to drop dead in 3C or start to show some spesific slam invites. And thereby remove some hand types from the GF 2D.

Not forcing beyond 3D IMO. Only promising interest in game, or even bidding out my hand to help partner if/when lefty bids again.

I abstain from time to time, because I haven't formed an opinion yet, and want to se the comments.
