Not perfect with xx, but I think 2NT is still a nobrainer.

If the response was 1, 2 shows 5-4. Having already found an eight card fit in a major, it's unlogical IMO, to play 2 as NF. I'd assume it's F1, but could be less than invitational, undiscussed.

If the responce was 1, 2 is a reverse, and thus forcing. For me GF, but you can also play it as F1.

3oM(), would be 5-5+ INV for me, 3oM() would be a splinter for hearts.

It's clear to overcall 2 with the south hand. We don't like to be stolen blind. Almost equally clear to act (double) over 1NT with the north hand.

Abstained, since I don’t blame anyone for missing a slam here.

I do blame east for passing over 4, 4NT or 5 would get EW to game, but not slam.

Standard in Norway is that 2NT shows longer diamonds and 3 equal length or longer clubs. You can stop in either minor with a weak hand. Or show a slam invite with one or both minors.

2NT is the obvious bid, IMO. Bidding more is really suspiciois after the hesitation, probably suggesting more than a minimum,

If that was to me, Steve, MUD implies leading the middle card, playing the highest next (middle, jo, down).

Alan: Do you lead the 6 and continue with the 5 both from 965 and 65?

Seems unplayable to me.

I’ve played transfers here, applying after 1-1M; 2.

You’re damn right, Ed. I apologize! Obviously, I should reread comments once or twice before commenting.

For those who play 2-way Stayman (used by many some weak NTers), the way to invite is Stayman followed by bidding your major.

Ed, the sentence you quoted started: «Playing behind screens». That’s why I wrote «don’t be ridiculous», since it was clear that it was playing with screens Paul was talking about. There’s no reason you should take exception to what I wrote. Btw, most, maybe all you write here is to the point, and not ridiculous.

Don’t be ridiculous, Ed. The Law say nothing about screens, but they’re used to minimize UI.

Strange, Ian. I’ve never seen anyone not alert this bid, and until now never expected to see it.

Patrick: They might be American, I don’t know. I’ve played them for ages, and haven’t played in the US. They might have been picked from the Bridge World by a partner of mine way back.

I’m on the same side of the pond as you. Standard up here is king from KQ, KQT.

I lead the K from AKJT(x) and the Q from KQT9(x), and partner will unblock the touching honor, if he’s got it. This might be expert practice here, but I’m not absolutely sure. I’ve played it in all partnerships for 30+ years.
