James do you have any links to a statistical study of normal as opposed to precision dice being more likely to come up 6?

Ditto Leonard I think initially tricky as so used to rolling a die being independent whereas here it is somewhat conditional.

Maybe that’s why I am a hopeless bridge player?!
Like concepts but maybe need to watch the pips better.

Good enough for Kit, good enough for me and should be for others:
“Seems clear to me from the wording of the problem that we keep rolling the die until the sequence occurs for the first time.”
Even my lawyer who charges by the 6 minutes doesn’t nitpick like most on this site.

Honestly it’s such a pain posting on BW as so many comments are over-pedantic.
Many tell me they don’t bother posting for this reason.
Not one person says, “great problem” when something which seems so obvious at first glance is wrong to the vast majority…. and you may learn something from the logic behind the answer.
Instead the focus on semantics as usual.
From now on will just ask David Burn directly the answer to anything involving logic and maths.
If you don’t get it, yeah which sequence is more likely to occur FIRST?

Totally agree Chip and offered to fund the development of that exact app on BW a few times but no one interested and I don’t have the technical know how to get started. Offer still open!

David what’s the odds if you flip a coin consecutively until either head head comes up or tail head.
Guess tail head more likely by same logic but by how much please?

Bravo Roland nicely explained.
Amazing how only 8% of BW responses so far have been right when it is a similar kind of logic puzzle to bridge.

John “one hand means nothing”.
Totally disagree. In certain cases one action yet alone one hand is enough for me:
Take this hand from a Bermuda Bowl over 50 years ago….
unnamed superstar passed after a very long think after hearing 3D-X-P-????
with xx, AQ10xxxx, 10xxx, void.
Miraculously finding his partner with
AQ10xx, K9, XXX, AKQ.
Said player was then benched.
Didn’t an impossible lead by Fantoni/Nunes on a given auction initially alert everyone to shennanigans which was justified by saying a mind blank?
1 action yet alone hand can be plenty.

I love bbo and love people cheating against me. Sterner competition what’s the problem for online practise sessions?

Ok forget this particular hand for a sec.
A number of world class players have private messaged me and said cheating is rampant on BBO.
Let me ask the question which is much more interesting than whether I have a balance or not, WHYYY do people do it?

Ok john even if your estimates right 0.5 x 0.1 x 0.5 (say) being generous is a 2% possibility so I go to bed optimistic there is a hope they are just clueless or lucky.
Sorry gavin no idea that info could expose. No probs if BW delete thread

Glass half full :)
I think it’s just not this one hand.
As gavin mentions lots are up to chicanery on bbo.
Just thought amusing happened to me in literally the first hand first board of a speedball I ever played.

Thx Gavin, not interested in reporting to BBO (I don’t care about winning and paradoxically playing vs opponents who can see all the cards may improve my game more!) and I didn’t ostracise as didn’t name names! Am really interested in knowing why oh why anyone is depraved enough to do this? I get but obv don’t condone why people cheat when their living is at stake or to win a world championship but can’t even fathom why anyone or pair would do this on bbo.
This puzzles me in the same way as Reece/Schapiro being caught at it (not saying guilty or not), in a third/fourth play off all those years ago when little to gain and everything to lose. Sadly my conclusion in both cases is winning at all costs is just part of human nature for a sizeable minority.

random? what % of players would not redbid 2h you reckon? thought automatic. coupled with the other two actions i eat my hat if this was rub of the green result, and i am the least paranoid guy in the world

Ron, there are a zillion hands where i need help analysing. Whether to open or balance is about judgement or bidding theory which is not the purpose of this post. More to try and understand why something clearly more sinister goes on, not just in World Championships but at every level of the bridge world.

Was on bbo so don’t know UI.
Not opening 2 when pard has Singleton, not rebidding 4 card suit when pard has Singleton and finding that lead seems like a heck of a parlay to me.
Master points clearly valued very highly by some.
