#1 I wish I had said what Chip Boyle said, well done Chip Boyle #2 is there a transcript of the EOC proceedings available? #3 Which participant asked a partner at an NABC to engage in collusive cheating and why is that person still playing?

Well perhaps it is ‘common knowledge’. Just because I did not know it does not make it ‘not common knowledge’. After all there are large books full of stuff I don't know

much ado about nothing

Why didn't the director know the rules?

So Mark Lair, because he has a whopping # of masterpoints has to know the rule at the bottom of page 3 of a 4 page swiss team rule book?

I didn't know that for sure.

It seems ultra-petty to think that for the crime of not knowing this rule, Lair resigned from a shot at a World championship and many of the darling little snowflakes don't think it is enough.

In the words of my mom bellowing through the ages

“Shut up and deal”

“crime of passion”?? sorry that never occurred to me.
I think you had 10 people taking the easy, perhaps lazy, and a bit stupid way out.
both sides probably thought they had a good shot of winning the match and this seemed at the time like a painless, zero time-consuming way to just move on.

“he bit the bullet..” indeed he did rather than sell a pantload of BS, which has been the norm for each other incident of any notoriety over the past few years
I agree with what Drew Casen said supra that he was caught speeding and paid a pretty stiff price, much like a heavy fine for a pro athlete losing his temper. This is a far cry from “much ado about nothing”
If the price Mark paid for this transgression is insufficient perhaps we need a “he without sin” committee to rule on proper punishment

She was one of the all-time greats, a close friend since 1971, and a genuine super-star

She was also never a snob.

I am sure Mark understands well that he erred. That is why he resigned instead of coming up with some baloney narrative that we all know is baloney
To my way of thinking he was putting it on his shoulders.Mark was born a male and has chosen to become a man, unlike others before him
Kudos to Mark Lair, a gentleman, a scholar and a helluva bridge player

Rena is not a person who rejoices in other's misery.
as a long time ACBL employee she is likely privy to the facts of the case

My only problem with your post is that when you said “old” years I was thinking early 60s then you clarified as mid 90s
ouch !!

Getting to know Carl Hudecek and discovering that he really honest to God makes those bids has been one of the highlights of the last 20 years of online bridge

Sam,
I know how close you were to Edgar. I know we have a zillion times through the years worked out bidding kinks using BW guidelines

I know that Emry and I, as well as quite a few others would bid BW Master Solvers driving to tournaments

While I have never met Saverio face to face, I know from our acquaintance on BBO that he is a very thoughtful and thorough individual.
Ergo when he goes to the trouble of making an analysis, as a bridge player, it is worth my time to consider his thesis.

All these concern all of us who take bridge seriously enough to buy an entry.
Mike Ma made an excellent point re paying expenses to int'l competitions
I am not familiar with how it works but I certainly don't want my ‘tax’ money supporting a pair who will shame us.
