Abstain because I wouldn't have passed with 10HCP at my second turn, even if there is no obvious bid (I think I would have bid 2)

East has decided to play at the 5 level missing AK of trumps.
He must have extras and clubs, a hand like x QJ975 Ax AQxxx.
I think bidding 6 is a good bet.

It seems that a heart return at second trick kills the squeeze.

Did West really bid 2? Maybe 2 is more plausible ?

I voted 4 for many reasons :
1- I doubt we will get a good MP score if opps plays 3
2- 4 might make (3 is probably making)
3- white vs red, I hope opps will bid 4 and then I may obtain a good MP score in 4x.

if 4 is forcing, and I think it is, I have no problem with it.

This is the cost of redoubling 7x, which is already a very good score, and probably a top, if it makes.

My flight plan is to start by the takeoff, i.e. opening 1. Then all dépends on the turbulences I will meet during the auction. Nonetheless, if the opponents remain silent and partner bids 1X, I will bid 3, forcing to game.

Pass and hope partner will bid 2NT for minors? I'm just dreaming but what else?

I you don't explain your system over 1NT, I'm afraid I can't answer.
I think I would pass at IMP.
Second choice 2 (multi).

“What do these different bids mean?”
Well it depends on your agreements… Mine are that 3 is Stayman, 3 a transfer to spades, 3 is I think unused ; 3, “impossible” transfer to hearts, shows a 3-suited hand with short hearts.
I'm afraid I have no way to play 3 or 3 on that auction.

replace J by A and I would double

I agree, and would open 2NT. Then transfer to spades (3),
then 4 or 6

That's exactly the reason why I abstained. South should bid 3

But what else if 1 is forcing ? It is forcing in my system

I'm afraid I won't have the nerves to double 2 in their 9 cards fit, with double fitted hands.
South should double 2 to show hearts.

Agree, and play for split honors in spades. If West wins the trick, play for the club-spade squeeze. If East wins it, play for the heart-spade squeeze.

3 is obvious at IMP IMHO ; at MatchPoints it is less clear, but If I pass, it would probably not end the auction, with our 9-cards fit and the favorable vulnerability for opps. So I prefer 3 to Pass.

So why not bid 4 instead of 4 at the previous round? I believe 3 was not forcing, so 5 may be beaten.
