I might have bid 4 at my first bid… Here with 2 Aces, Pass seems automatic

I have voted for 3 which is 100% clear, but if I was sure to be understood by my partner, I would have prefered 4 (5+ clubs and a 4+ fit in hearts). Partner will be then better placed if opps bid 4.

If you play 1NT 14+ to 17, this is an obvious 1NT opening. And if you play 15-17, I believe 1NT will still be the majority choice

I think I would double with a 1=4=3=5 hand… Which has no long diamonds

Take out, short spades (explaining no double at first bid), with 4+ hearts and 4+clubs.

Giving 11 HCP to West and 8 HCP to East, which seems a minimum, partner has at most 5 HCP… Thinking about slam is optimistic at least….

I'm afraid of double fitted hands where 4 and 5 both make. So 5.

K&R=18.15. With 7+HCP implied with the double, I want to be in game, even at MatchPoints. So 3NT it is.

What about that specific hand : 2=5=2=4, 18-19 HCP, with concentrated values in hearts and clubs, and no diamond stopper?

No blame. I might have chosen 3 instead of 4 with South's hand, because I hate 4441 hand, but 4 is a reasonable bid.

Maybe 3 is a splinter agreing diamonds. But I agree that if it's natural, then it's the perfect bid.

Isn't 4 forcing in that auction? I believe it is, but I'm probably wrong.

Has Partner really bid 5 at unfavourable with that hand ?

And my usual question: is it a forcing pass situation? I really don't know but put a small bet on “no”

I have to admit I would have passed with North hand, with only 11 HCP and a doubtful Q. But just swap the hearts and the spades and I agree with 3.

That's funny because 55% is the poll results for bidding 4.

Using french system, I can't see any alternatives to double and 3 (2 would show a hand with less than 8 HCP). Now North might have bid 3, and 4 would have been reached. But it's really not obvious to bid 3 with such ugly hearts…

I believe South has an obvious double of 5.

Abstain because I wouldn't have passed with 10HCP at my second turn, even if there is no obvious bid (I think I would have bid 2)

East has decided to play at the 5 level missing AK of trumps.
He must have extras and clubs, a hand like x QJ975 Ax AQxxx.
I think bidding 6 is a good bet.
