That looks like a misfitted hand with opponents richer than we are. Pass.

Pass because usually 2 shows at least 6 cards, and denies 2 spades cards.

But what do you bid with the specific 1=4=5=3 weak hand? Pass is a possibility, with the danger to play 2 in a 3-3 fit…

I do agree. About 7-10 points and 5+ cards

Patrick, if opener hasn't forgotten the system, he can't have 5 heart cards… as 3 has denied a 5 cards major. And I really can't see a reason to force the 5th level with a very narrowly defined hand (2NT is precise)

3 by East shows a hand with 3 spades and 4+ hearts. 4 may be a diffcult contract with hearts at best 4-2

if Partner bids 2 over my 2 bid I'm happy to Pass.
If he bids 3… Well first of all what does this mean ? 6+ spades cards and a good hand? In that case I do bid 4.

ok Mike, so what is your bid after the 1 response?

With East dealer and silent opponents, I think the auction would be 1-1-3, on which I think West should bid 4, ending the auction. So I would have missed the slam.
Nonetheless, 6 looks like a good spot I would like to reach.

Patrick, I'm not sure about it, but with 5-5 in -, isn't it usual to open 1 with 10-13HCP, and 1 with more than 13HCP?

IMHO 2 has denied a real heart fit. It is Matchpoints, so I'm going to try a risky double for the magic +200 (or the dreadful -670…)

The next problem will probably be the bid over Partner's double… Pass, 3 or 4?

2 was bid in the hope to play that contract

3 could come from xxx xxxx xxx xxx and 0 HCP. Here this is not a completely minimum hand, but with only 4 hearts cards, a 4333 hand, and an unuseful Q, I completely agree with the majority.

16 imps behind, I'm going to try the grand. I bid 7NT because Partner may have the Q, and if the spades don't roll, diamonds might roll.

I don't know which one is the best between 3 and 2NT at my first call. Now it seems logical to Pass and try to beat it. A double might be tempting at Matchpoints.

South lacks heart control and North has never shown it. And 5 seems to deny it. But it is not easy for North to find a good bid over 4 (6?)…

Something is wrong in the auction… East can't bid 2 (maybe 2?), and West, not South, probably bid the final 4… and I suppose South doesn't play 1NT 15-17.

Not easy to play 2 as non forcing… What does 3 mean in your system?

I would have bid a direct 4, but I think West has an obvious double over it. So I would have got a terrible result, unless East saves me with a 4 bid.

Do you mean a bidding poll?
You can poll West hand for the opening bid (1 or 4?)
You can poll North hand if West open 1 (how many Spades do you bid)?
And you can poll South hand, but the choices really depend on how the auction has started.
