Response to 2 can be 2 showing equal preference (1-1 or 2-2 or 3-3) to both M. Then 2 on that would not show a good hand. You suggest 3 if 2 comes?

Declarers who know they are 1 down and the only way they can make if opponents either make a silly mistake (like revoking) but still think for hours

That is why I mentioned what distributions are agreed by the partnership to open 1N. Re-pasting below. Allowed distributions:-
5M if 5332 (5422 if both doubletons have Ax/Kx or better) and 6m if 6322 (both doubletons have Ax/Kx or better) but not allowing singletons even if it is an honour

Why would we play 4m?
Also, stayman has other ramifications
1) Opener's shape becomes known (atleast partially)
2) 2C can be doubled
3) They can overcall at 2 level for lead
These can be harmful in MPs IMHO

Strong 2 suiter 5-5 or better (4 or less losers, 3 or less if both minors).
This way, responder can pass 1 level openings without having to worry about opener having a good 2 suiter. At the same time, makes it harder for opponents to enter the auction (where one/ both sides have a big 2 suit fit)

I specified teams. I thought teams means IMPs unless otherwise mentioned as BAM

As I said playing with non regular partner who doesn't play much because he is a lawyer. Your only agreement is 2/1, playing xyz ( no agreement if xyz is ON after passed hand and after interference) and some more basic gadgets
