I confess with KJxxx I would bid 1, but in general partner should play me probably for 4+-9-. I admit I'd bid 1 with KQxx though…I'm pretty aggressive at the 1 level with a fit.

After partner's free bid (not showing much more than 5-9 points) a raise just alerts partner to the fact that I have 4, but don't promise extra values. With a hideous T/O double (even with 4) I would pass though.

I have a much better hand than I could have had (and a double fit). I'm not letting 3 go (impossible for partner to compete).

I abstained (would have DBL'd 1). If I HAD passed 1, I would bid 2 here.

Playing suction (as here it seems) partner's Pass=long . My hand has apparently become quite marvelous!

Although I felt like all the system description messages were prompting me to Pass, I bid 3 anyway…

OK, so I decided to treat this as a GF (right or wrong). 2NT seems pretty obvious now.

Using “ZAR points” (=27–you need 26 to open) it is..using any other valuation probably not…
ZAR points=HCP+controls+(sum of two longest) + (longest-shortest)

Since I appear to have a quantitative hand with 6 and short , isn't 4NT the simplest (and least likely to get misinterpreted) action available (other than the conservative Pass)? In a more finely tuned partnership with more solid agreements, 4 would probably be right…

Partner is likely short in and still could not act…I doubt we're missing a game and if partner has 2+, we definitely do not want to be in this auction. I'll stay fixed and hope we go plus…

I'm not going -470 at IMPs when we could be making a game our way… I'm grateful to be playing Lebensohl where I can at least show values…Pass could easily be the winning call, but someone else can make it…

I'm a little confused as to when “transfers over a (could be doubleton) club” are allowed.

Interesting followup: If you do bid 1, partner's response is 3. What then?

I'm bidding 2 to do two thing:
(1) Find out if opener is min/max and
(2) Let pard know when I bid rkc/ next time (and hypothetically follow up with a specific king ask if we have them all) that I have 6+ so he can possibly count to 13 tricks.

I am always bidding 6NT (or 6 if something gets doubled suggesting I want to right side it) unless we are off 2 keys…

I'm not playing partner for a card when he didn't DBL 3. It can't possibly be right to lead a here, so that leaves a (surely partner has something there) or my stiff (which could be the winner).

I much prefer to just play 1m-3m=Mixed raise and give up the ultra weak bid. I'd rather have a semi-constructive bid available to a garbage bid.

I actually do play both versions with some partners Dave…and you are right: 1-1-2-2 works well as nf also…

I prefer to play 1m-2H=5+S-4+H, 6-10-ish to handle these awkward nf hands and play this sequence is (at least) forcing 1 round …

I'd be afraid to have an unfortunate accident if I cue bid 4 (partner thinks I'm making a delayed raise with a doubleton and passes). 4NT is straightforward enough and will almost surely get us all the info we need to know.
