I 100% agree with Michael about teaching Hool to beginners. It allows new players to appreciate the concepts for bidding without having to get into the minutiae of what one bid means versus another in context, rather, they get to appreciate what information is important to communicate to partner in a way that is simple and easy. Then one day, when they start to learn bidding, I think one might say, I have six spades and 12 high card points, how do I tell that to my partner. This is just one example. Thanks for sharing your endorsement of Hool Michael, it opens up a whole new world of teaching in my opinion and I am delighted that you have done such a fine job of sharing it!

I will put in a plug for Hool. You are actually playing bridge, just the bidding is different. There are two rounds. Everyone gets to share with the table either:
1. There length in one suit
2. Their pattern (non-specific)
3. Their HCP

The inventor was in Orlando demonstrating the game. He suggests playing it for six months before teaching bidding. What fascinates me is that you learn what is important for you to know and share with your partner. After that, the bidding can be learned more organically, ie. I have six spades and nine HCP, how do I tell my partner this.

Hi Jeff,

Where can I find the list of the clubs that have a novice game? I would like to solicit them about doing screenings of Double Dummy.

Hi Chris,

We've already submitted to 15 + film festivals and the film only got accepted in the Va Film Festival, my home town festival. We got a crowd of nearly 200 people for the screening, but it's too niche for festival programmers in my experience. Even when we've had an introduction to a festival we still have not been accepted. So I am making the film available through Tugg and am counting on the bridge community to see the power of this film in sharing the game with the next generation of players. Thanks for asking!

John

You’re right about Sabine and Roy’s playing record. I did not think of them at the time as I don’t believe they are husband and wife. The truth is, being intimidated by anyone at the table, regardless of their track record, does not put me in the best place to win. That’s what I had going through my mind at the time, even though I failed to say it.

Take Boye for example, I idolized him for a long time after having played an event with him some years ago. I just didn’t see myself as being on his level as an analyst/player. I got to look and question that in the Philly Vandy and darn if almost didn’t beat him.

Thanks Kevin, I thought so to with regard to getting out of the way and allowing the guest to complete their thoughts. I appreciate your saying so. There’s an audio program that I’ve used on previous episodes which might help. At least I think I’ve used it. Can’t remember…bad trait for a bridge player.

Thanks for your feedback Daniel. It turns out I mislabeled the podcast on Google Play as: A Conversation with Gavin Wolpert. I have changed it to just: The Setting Trick. All three episodes are showing up in my search on Google Play but I am having a difficult time finding a link that doesn't just work for me. Try this one:https://partnerdash.google.com/partnerdash/d/playpodcast#p:id=playpodcast/series&a=752772427

Thanks for your patience, please confirm that you have in fact found the episode. Still troubleshooting the Soundcloud issue.

Thanks for pointing that out. My hosting provider, Libsyn, said that to me as well and I thought I had fixed it. The first two episodes are up there. Will let you know more when I do.

I am going to hate to hear my partner bid 3NT which is the style I played with Fredin.

Thanks for your feedback Kevin, I am keen to allow the conversation to flow better and better so that editing is not required. That, and I am loathe to do it. I will make an effort to have episodes available monthly. It's a good goal for me to be better organized in my approach to this. I want to have a female as my next guest. Have yet to decide whom that may be.
