Sorry I wasn't clear. It was a weak NT situation where I incorrectly opened an explanation was correct.

Actually after defending I asked declarer why he didn't correct to preemptive. He stated partner's explanation was correct which is when I asked for notes. I thought that it would either be preemptive or forcing. When notes showed forcing is when discussion started that they should not be penalized for having notes since if there were no notes than we would have to accept the explanation that invitational was correct.
This made me think of all the times that a bid did not match explanation but explanation is always explained as correct and accepted with no proof.

We don't promise an opening bid on a weak NT. We promise a hand that does not want to defend. When I doubled was not actually sure we were beating but expected hand was ours.

Ray not that I know off. I let director's/ACBL handle that. I try to work the logistics with the hotel.

I will say that I heard discussions of 2 bracket 2 teams from this event that wished they were in bracket 1. I do not know if they requested that from director or not.

Quote from Mark

Logic tells me ADDING a team shouldn't make the bracket easier to win for everyone.

There are 8 teams in the top bracket. I randomly take 4 players from the 0-20 game to fill the bracket. I believe we can all agree there is 0% chance this team makes the final 4.

When I do this the other players in the 0 to 20 game state they would like to play the really good players also so we fill bracket to 16 teams. 8 blockbusters and 8 0-20. My head still hurts from being tournament chair last week in Orlando but I expect that one of the bottom 8 teams coming in top 4 is >10% in a random draw knockout. Maybe someone could do the math.

Jeff I believe a player can request an adjustment to his masterpoint total but it is permanent. A player once complained that he did not deserve points for having a below average game as a flight C player. I believe his point total was adjusted to 2500 points(not added just for which flight/bracket he plays in). Not sure if it increase or stays there till his point total passes 2500.

When Joe bid 7N he believed his partner held the ace of diamonds, between the time he bid 7N and the time he realized it appears that it may have been directly related to how long the hesitation may have been. Joe was influenced by the UI that it took a long time.

So when you compared with teammates and they told you the defense of the other pair you now realized you could have taken another trick and therefore should not have accepted the claim. Not sure what technical rulings should be but seems like you should not get a trick if this was circumstance.

I always liked it Fri/Sat. Nice continuation if you queued for the NAP. Now I either need to qualify with someone with a Platinum qualifier or less than 10K so that we can play something more than a regional if we qualify.

Why I didn't play in the LM pairs?

Winning the 3 day LM pairs would pay 190 points. $50 per day entry fee +150 per day for hotel. I can play in Regionals $26 per day, $99 for hotel and can win 36 masterpoints per day.

so if LM pairs payed 36 * 3 * 50/26 * 150/100 = 311 points. So if the LM pairs paid 311 points to win I would have went.

How silly of a concept. Although I believe people play in events where they believe they can be competitive I am not convinced that this is as much of an issue as has been discussed.

Although I do believe players choose easier events in some cases to have a better chance of winning points I do not believe number of points come into equation.

I know of several players who do not like bracketed swiss at sectionals. Top bracket although pays significantly more points for winning than an open swiss greatly decreases the probability of an overall for some of the teams. Being the 8th best team in an 8 team bracket for some is a very long day.

Please choose what you prefer to play and have played at some point in time.
How do I choose an option in the 1 when I have played all 3 options at one point in time and I prefer to play my partner's card.

Actual think this would be a valid solution. When I first started playing in Boston area. Regional had flighted pairs and either 0-99 or 199. If all of gold rush moved into open pairs then I expect would not be an issue. Local club had a 0-1000 pt game and an open and was looking at increasing to 0-1500 since those players did not want to play in open, 2 separate directors and 0-100 had approx. 15 tables and open 3-4. When 0-1000 point director went on vacation we ran single game for a month with no issues. Bringing multiple players from lower level game into higher works. 1 or 2 pairs may be difficult

Yes but I expect that pair was an exception. Yes pairs are paying more since “gold rush” adds to them significantly. I actually believe that teams are reducing not so much based on masterpoint shifts but in smaller tournaments the bottom of the top bracket is moving to teams bringing in a new bottom of the top bracket that can't necessarily compete

was path on live I used. Probably did not pull in last day swiss for some reason. I agree top team in Raleigh but your suggestion implies that team awards should pay more than they do now to be more in line with what pairs pay since.

What I was trying to get at was it is very difficult to be most masterpoint winner at a regional by just playing pairs. Several teams typically lead the field. More points are given out per player in a team event compared to a pairs event when similar number of players in both events.

I do think the pair masterpoint system is broken, It used to count all the gold rush pairs and when there were 12 open and 90 gold rush it seemed to big so they set a fixed multiplier when there was a gold rush. I believe the multiplier makes sense but should not allow you to add more tables than what is actually in the gold rush.

So 15 tables open with a gold rush I believe gets credit for 45 but if 15 open and less than 30 gold rush does not make sense.

Teams used to get all the lower brackets and then they changed it to Strength of field.

Response to Jeff #2. A bracketed Swiss concept is to play all the other teams which is why it is limited to 9. We have run open Swiss and bracketed B/C/D and the bottom of the open usually is not very happy. Less overall awards than a bracketed swiss format.

Jeff those teams were already in the 2 bracket. Extra teasm either fill the top bracket or the bottom bracket in a bracketed swiss. They filled the bottom here. Actually n the event we were talking about the 8th and 9th seed actually came in 1st and 2nd of the event when David's team was in bracket 2.

In Florida sectionals started running bracketed swiss on Sunday and basically the bottom of the top bracket stated they would not play in that event.
