We play standard, so opening 1 shows 3+ and 12-21 total points. Minors are either 3-3 or length is longer than length with no 5+ card major.

I was the opener, not the responder.

I just posted this question from the perspective of my partner. He doesn't know that I'm slightly light on my opener. All he can expect is 12-21 points with the standard opener.

I started this email after a back and forth with one decent player today. Turns out he's had their convention card done for a long while but didn't realize how to connect it to his partner so it would come up when playing with the other guy. I'm sure it's the case for a number of people on BBO.

I'm not strict about the CC thing in my clubs, BUT I've also done score adjustments when it comes down to a request due to bad info.

I also have one lady who flips out when people don't explain what their system/discards are the second they enter a new table. Fun stuff.

That's definitely the be all / end all that I use.

But many people still don't want to read through it all.

I'm looking for things that say “Michael's Cuebid - Not Alertable” … “Jacoby 2NT - Alertable”.

I ask because probably half of our club members that are currently playing refused at first because “it all looks so complicated” … those are the players that are absolutely hooked right now.

That being said I'm in NJ near the epicenter of everything dangerous right now, so people are more careful about not wanting to go anywhere.

But in general, if anybody has any questions about directing or need a director or need any other advice, just reach out. Lots of helpful people here.

Whatever the points are, I jumped to 3 to block out the opponents from bidding. I'm just trying to figure out what the normal bidding guidelines are.

Very good recap and explanation by Jonathan. This is problem the #1 important thing for new VACB directors to understand setting up a game. It's caused a lot of problems getting people on. Also, remind people to have money in their accounts if they plan on playing in a game that costs any money.

I'd suggest just having as many people as possible jump on and you run a “practice” free game (no points or anything). Just like 8 boards. Have everybody get the kinks out.

I'm just waiting for BBO to eventually add more people to add more directors so clubs can run.

Either way, thank you Jeff for all you've done to help the Bridge world lately! Looking forward to one day coming up and visiting from South Jersey.

I don't have any problem with the ACBL at all. I'm doing this as nothing more than a labor of love. We don't have any of the financial ramifications that other clubs do, so we're lucky that this won't affect any bottom lines. I just hate being in the dark about things and not able to really help my club members who keep begging me to play against their friends. I appreciate everybody's hard work, especially the people on here.

The benefit for me is that my club is just that … a club. I don't rely on any of the income as full-time work (barely part-time work), but I'm trying to help out not only my club, but other clubs in my area as well organizing all this.

Imagine if for some reason your club owner didn't even know about bridgewinners. This is literally where I'm getting 95% of the information, thanks to great people that I've been talking to for a few years on here.

I'll definitely be patient. It's just frustrating that many people are getting left in the dark until they get their ducks in a row.

Yes, I got the same message, and Jim Perkins let us know that would be the case. As mentioned above, just start collecting user names from your players.

Every online meeting and trial and everything seems to be “Start with Honors and move from there”.

I feel that many of the smaller clubs are getting left out unless they got in really early before everything started happening. Sure the experienced clubs and players will be fine for the 1pm and 5pm games, but for some clubs, people just aren't used to the online world.

Keeping information and access from people just makes things more difficult.

It's an unprecedented situation, so I'm trying to be patient. It's just a little difficult at times.

The 10:30am conference call on Zoom was capped at 100 people. This is just so frustrating for many club owners/managers who are just hours behind everybody else in signing up for various privileges to know what's going on.

I’m sure it’ll be a slow process but it’s better than doing nothing.

Finally sent out an email to my club members asking them to sign up and get used to the site. Thanks to everybody here for all the help with it!

Now I sit here and wait for my members to email me with usernames and BBO to give me control.

So I'm not the most familiar with BBO, since … I don't play online. But from reading a thread, do I have to become a BBO Director to run a tournament in the future?

Do I just have to email support and have them set me up specifically for such a job? (Yes, I'm a director and club manager IRL.)

In my games, a lot, haha. But I mostly have 0-750 games that I direct. Lots of insufficient over time.

My favorite ever was a hand that my opponents insufficiently bid 1, which I accepted and bid and played in 2. Nobody knew what was going on as I made the contract.
