Oh that makes sense. I haven’t played one since Detroit in 2007 or 2008.

It must be longer than that. I’ve still got one I received in 2010.

Just to clarify, 2 - 2NT is forcing to either 3 or 3NT in our system, for better or worse

We’re playing Dave Berkowitz’s version from his “Precision Today”. I’m with you - I find 7 2 2 2 hands make lousy 3-level preempts

I looked up mine, and I’m reminded of one of Agatha Christie’s best novels, “Towards Zero”.

I’m with Shawn. This team’s methods allow fairly light opening bids so game is unlikely. It’s not even a good 15 count. Safety first!

Something tells me that the double didn’t turn out so well

I never open 2NT as this is weak, 5/5 or better in the minors.

I agree - Precision Today is very well written and detailed. I highly recommend it. You can keep your strong NT engine if you like and your 2/1 major suit structure. If you decide to try the mini NT you’ll have to look somewhere else for a runout system (we use one by a local player, John Guoba).

I met the author once, many years ago after having been talked into playing the Open Swiss at a summer National. We fluked a win in our first match and when we sat for the second we found about a dozen kibitzers. Uh oh, I thought. Then the opps sat down & one of them looked at my card and said, “Looks like you’re playing my system”. He was very nice and we lost by only one IMP I think.

Can you share partner’s hand that she did not open?

What is 2C-2D-3S?

I believe many forcing club players have this as 6 and 5.

In my favourite partnership we play a forcing club system with weak notrumps and no Drury so…

2 is game forcing and shows real clubs
3 is the dreaded Bergen 4-card limit raise
4 is a splinter
5 would be Exclusion Blackwood but in 10 years this has never been bid :-)
A raise to 2 is a 3 card limit raise. With a square minimum opener and three trumps I’ll just raise to game and hope it’s enough.

Since we open light 11-15 HCP I can’t remember ever responding 2 to a third seat opening bid that I couldn’t have opened 2 in first seat but if I did it would be natural and forcing.

I know it’s matchpoints but I’m still rebidding diamonds with this hand

I suppose Oscar Wilde got his “Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative” 44 yeas later from Emerson

We open this hand 2NT to show 5/5 or better in the minors, but that will require a forcing club system of some kind

Playing 15-17 NT I think I’d open 1. For me, the Q is of doubtful value.
