I play it as invitational with 5-5 in the majors, because like, why wouldn't it be? Evidently I am in the minority here.

I Pass, but if it were the semi-finals, I'd bid 3.

I'd bid 2 even in my local club game.

I hate 1NT but I hate everything else (1, X, and Pass come to mind) even more.

If you ruff with the K, don't you have a heart loser to go with the diamond you just lost?

@Kieran, a good question, but don't most pairs have no bids at all which show clubs in this auction?

I assumed 2 was Michaels, but I'm prepared to hear reasons why 2=Michaels, 3=clubs is bad an unworkable agreement!

Isn't West's “attractive club lead” based on Partner's low diamond return? For all we know he had Qx or Qxx.

I don't understand how Partner can have a penalty double and not have bid some number of NT last time around.

I'm going to game force with 3 and raise spades next. Even if we end up in a Moysian I still expect to have play. If Partner has Qxxx x xxx KJxxx then that's too bad, but anything else and we're in business.

I think Kit Woolsey once said something along the lines of: once partner jumps to slam, the auction is over. That works for me.

East is willing to play 3 on a 6-1 fit??

Well, what happens is declarer cashes the K, crosses to dummy with a heart, cashes the A, and discards a club. Now Partner needs to know whether declarer was 4324 or 4423 to know which suit to keep. Or alternatively to know whether East has the 10 or not.

If I am supposed to invite if game is laydown opposite the perfect minimum, should I overbid if game is laydown opposite the perfect maximum?

Give me the K and I'll bid 4. Give me the K and I'll try 3NT. Although with either of those hands I might've opened 2NT.

I still need 10 tricks to open 2 with a minor, and I only count 9, so I'll start with 1 and if it passes out there I'll be happy with my +110 or +130.

Am I playing 2/1? If so, IJS? I might bid 2 anyway.

@Michael S: I believe Adam's point is that he is happy to play 2 *undoubled* with this meaning. If the opponents double and it turns out his major was spades, then he'll correct to 2.

What would 4 by West over 4 have meant? It can't mean “I wanted to bid slam but I see we have an uncontrolled suit” since we've already bid controls in all the suits. So it seems like it should mean “I am just about interested in slam but need one more goodie from Partner” shouldn't it? And now Partner, with nothing extra from what he's already shown can Pass.
