If you bid 3 and partner thinks it was a 3NT try and bids 3NT, can't you just correct to 4?

I considered playing the J on trick 1, and maybe I should have, but I thought I wanted to preserve the ruffing finesse in case I needed it.

What's frightening to me is the opponents finding their heart fit.

If you play a heart on trick 2, aren't you down as of trick 2?

This is the sort of ethical dilemma that comes up in any situation where a player does not have equity in the result. Should the team with no chance to win but playing one of the contenders play to its best ability?

It's the price we pay for having a nice format like Swiss where you get a full day of bridge even if you are having an off day. To avoid it, you need to resort to some other system, such as knockouts.

A key prerequisite for the article is that you have to play Fourth Suit Forcing as one round, rather than game forcing. Don't most people play it GF?

What would happen if we printed along the top of every convention card, in large friendly letters, “Hand this card to your opponents at the start of every round”?

If the two teams are going to collude to draw the match, can't they just make up scores to get a tie? So how does the 0-0 penalty prevent anything?

What's the advantage of distinguishing between 4=4=3=2 and 4=4=2=3 hands given that you are going to play 2M either way?

Playing SAYC, I would think 1-2-2NT shows a minimum balanced hand, 1-2-3NT shows a maximum balanced hand, and with 18-19 balanced you have to invent a major suit bid.

Since Partner went through the 2NT relay, he is obviously showing 6 hearts, game going strength, and a spade stopper. Whereas had he bid 4 directly, we would know he didn't have a spade stopper.

I don't think 3 is forcing, but at the same time, I would be really surprised if the auction stops there.

And South also gets a clearer idea of whether he would like to Double 7 or bid 7.

I feel like if I were playing Extended Flannery that I would have some agreements about bidding in competition over it would be, but I don't know what yours are.
