I read your post three times, just because I like it that much. We are happy to have Zia and you in the bridge world

This is exactly why we stopped playing multi 2. In my experience, you get ruled against you so easily even when you do have the defence sheets with you.

We play 2 as:
a) range ask
b) weak diamonds
c) weak with both minors (could also be invitational then, because you can sign off when opener shows a minimum.
d) strong with minors (you will bid 3M shortness or 3NT 22(54) afterwards

Good system!

I have to add that they were really nice and sporty opponents, so we had an enjoyable match.

I am part of Mahaffey's team and I will be playing against Lanzarotti. As Peg Kaplan and Michael Hargreaves already mentioned, it's not so easy to ‘just boycott him’, even though I would like to do that.

To make that kind of play at the table is really nice. Well done!

Incredible performance by team Onstott to beat everyone with a margin of 14 VPs in this killer field. Congratulations!

Best line seems to be A and small spade ruffed. If spades break 3-2, you are home (play 3 or 4 rounds of trumps and claim).

If RHO pitches something on the second spade, you can ruff and duck a club.
Then: if they do not play a heart at this point, you can ruff a club, ruff a spade and make 12 tricks if trumps break. If they return a heart (nice defense), you will try to ruff a heart and a club.

Perfect example of a good situation for double= I want to bid on (but can't decide on my own). Now I just bid what I hope I can make.

Why wouldn't you double 6 clubs? Partner must have a lot of diamonds.

Penalize them for preparing the board. I never get 28 HCP, let alone twice!

East preempted with 2 because his partner had a passed hand. Maybe that's not good, but it's reasonable. So easy to criticize when seeing both hands.

I would vote 40% East (2 was not good decision on this hand), 20% West for not jumping to 4 and 40% to the risk of doing business.
