There was a three-way tie for third place in Flight B.
Two teams from Flight B get to go the Nationals.

What happens if the 1st or 2nd team in Flight B can't attend NABC.
Which one of the third place teams get to attend?

@Peg I am very grateful for your efforts.

Hopefully, the D22 BOD and GNT coordinator will look closely at this for next year.

Exactly true, @Peg. I bet you feel like a COC “repeat” machine.

After reading 750 plus posts regarding this fiasco, I surely agree with your point that the GNT's need to be adjudicated by the most qualified players. It has been an education for me.

However, I was responding to Jonathan's comment in regards to the ACBL and Dst 22 members acting poorly and ineffectually to declare a winner.

I'm sure they are doing everything possible to get this resolved including reaching out to more qualified players.
Most importantly, let's hope the Coopers, Feldmans,Leo,Ross etc. will volunteer to help with future planning of the District 22 Gnt's.

It doesn't take a qualified player to apologize or to say I made a mistake.

The two District 22 Board members from San Diego work tirelessly and efficiently for the District. We are extremely fortunate to have them representing our Units. They both have top finishes in Nationals and Regionals so they know something about bridge.
I'm wondering if the decision is somehow being held up by ACBL.

Perhaps they need to read Ellis' post again:
1. WE Screwed Up
2. We apologize.
3. Here is the best solution we can think of.
4. Once again we are sorry we screwed up.

@Peg…great post this morning. I would give your post triple “likes” if I could.

How can we make that happen? That would be awesome!

Oh, and I have one more comment to make, that is probably bothering me more than anything……… the bridge community should be concerned when an advancing junior player like Finn (who I've hardly said hello to at bridge events) has to endure this craziness. Just imagine his excitement last Sunday knowing his team won the Open GNT's.

This might be a life lesson for him, but I'm sure backgammon, spades, and poker are becoming more appealing.

Since last weekend I have verbally asked 4 players from Flight B if they thought the opening instructions on Saturday were abnormally confusing.

All 4 of them agreed that the directors were speaking over one another and the 20 plus teams in the room. It was extremely confusing.

Regarding the gentleman who claims that some of the team captains weren't proactive about obtaining instructions in advance. I assure you our team captain sent an email to our team members in advance with feedback/suggestions from his experience playing in the GNT's in 2018.

Congratulations on your win Dustin and team! If we couldn't win, I was very happy for your team!

Also, as I said earlier, I personally went to the D22 website to review the COC, but was unable to access.

Since this was my first GNT's, I went to the website before the event, to read the CoC. There was a D22_2016-2018-GNT_CoC posted with a broken link. Here is a link to the website: link:http://acbldistrict22.com/D22/DIR/GNT/gnt.php

I played in the event both days in Flight B. Instructions were extremely difficult to understand.

After the entries closed it seemed like the DIC and the Club Director determined what format was best on the spot. There were no COC instructions or chart provided or posted on the D22 website.

Out of courtesy to the first winners (who were announced on the screen) someone should have contacted them before changing the final results on ACBL Live.

As an active volunteer for my Unit, I have admiration for the Coordinator's time and efforts in organizing the event. Also, as a very new Club Director, I have compassion and respect for the difficult job, but this was a GNT fail.

I hope the appeal will be heard, and they will clean it up for next year.
