Excellent point. I've often wondered why most organizers don't seem to tell the nearby restaurants/bars what the “rush” hours will be, and that they may need extra staff then, not at the traditional times.

I voted no but neither choice is quite accurate. I can certainly see more frequency for some sites but not permanent. Unlike many I suspect, I do not particularly like Vegas or Florida. I do like to visit interesting cities as I do not play for 10 days straight any more. Then again given the expense of an NABC …. I may well be irrelevant to the discussion.

The four team events overlap exactly … it has always been this way (back when only two (Open/Women) and then three (add Seniors) and now four). Basically a week of round robin and then a week of KOs. There is a “consolation” transnational after the round-robin open to any combination of players eliminated and new players as well. You can find the schedule here:

I rarely read online magazines - but MIGHT if they came in EPUB or MOBI (Kindle) format for my e-Reader - yes books are OK electronically for me - much easier for plane trips and carrying around! Like Richard above, I read very little of A New Bridge Magazine now that it is online.

We used to get two version as well (different last names) but a simple email to ACBL stopped that waste at least!

Agree this seems ridiculous - and surely there is a way to have many more teams play Day 1 of the Vanderbilt?? Is there a rule that you cannot reduce 68 to 32??

So back in the mists of time my team won a Masters Mixed Teams which does indeed qualify for GLM status should I ever get to 10,000 MPs (which I won't - I may never get to 5K given how little I play now). So if this means I cannot play in a 0-10K event, it is hardly the end of the world as I usually would play “up” not “down” in all circumstances … but it would mean that at a Spring Nationals I might not have an event to play in opposite the Platinum Pairs as some of my regular partners are not qualified for that event.

It seems sensible perhaps to limit two such qualified people playing together, or multiple “national” winners, but one?

A ranking system would be so much more sensible.

I played in Orlando. To do so, as in many previous WBF events, I signed and submitted a WBF Player Commitment form.

Paragraph 14: 1 accept to be subject to the anti-doping rules of the WBF. In particular I submit to doping control at or by the request of WBF and I accept consequences and sanctions as well as the jurisdiction of WBF and the Court of Arbitration for Sports as provided for in the anti-doping rules of WBF which I can consult on www.worldbridge.org.

This does not mean I agree with the whole Olympic movement/CAS/WADA involvement - I do not. It does not mean I agree with the actual degree of punishment - I do not. But it does mean that I went into it with my eyes wide open.

In previous instances as a WBF NPC I have always made sure the team had appropriate waivers (TUE) as required.

This seems pretty reasonable with the conditions attached, although I also have no real problem with permanent expulsion for collusive behavior (perhaps with some exceptions for beginners?).

Just another reason not to play in NABC (and perhaps EBL/WBF events) - other than the ever rising costs, locations, inadequate system cards, etc etc

CNTC (Canadian National Team Championship) chooses the Open Team. There are also CWTC, CSTC and now CMTC events to choose the others. All are part of “Bridge Week”. The www.cbf.ca website has details for this year and for past years.

It is simply an automatic thing for me when I take the hand out, usually in 4-4-3-2 pattern, facedown of course!

While I understand the arguments related to permanent sites, it would be yet another reason for me to stay home (with an exception or two like New Orleans). Even if the permanent sites are cities I like, I enjoy the variety, especially as I rarely play all 10 days and look for other interesting opportunities in the area.

And I like the occasional NABC that doesn't require flying (Toronto being one).

Then again NABCs are getting too expensive for this retiree. So perhaps it doesn't matter anymore.

I'm with Peg - much easier to announce all ranges - better for all to remember and better for less UI.

And does 14+-17 count as 15-17 or not?? Why make life difficult?

And if one decides to come too late (for many possible reasons) to get a room in the “host” hotel????

A matter to be discussed with partner - assuming 4th suit game forcing, in the given auction I'd bid 3H and it would show 4. In 1C-1D; 1S-2H; 3H - opener cannot have 4 hearts and generally we play it as xxx or Jxx and a grope for 3N.

Even at two a year, I'd likely only attend one every two years or so … the cost is prohibitive, especially compared with other trips I'd like to make - with or without bridge (The Gold Coast tournament in Australia for example). Important I think with two to balance between the eastern and western parts of the continent to give people a more or less equal chance to attend over a two-year cycle - at least until you can acquire platinum points more locally - masterpoints do matter to a lot of people although not to me.

With Peg on the start times (more or less) - hate starting at 1:00 p.m. and 7+ p.m. … never get a proper meal, don't know what to do all morning (OK, in Hawaii I can imagine something). I understand it may not be a solvable problem but I'm avoiding the “standard” hour events at regionals/nationals.

Not going…too expensive. Even if I was certainly would not be located at the hotel which is a ridiculous amount in Canadian dollars. Cancel BOD meeting. In fact reduce BOD size and hold only one F2F meeting per year.
