So, he was impatient with himself?

Note that it did say that South impatiently made his statement. That implies that he knew that West was on lead, and was taking time to do so.

To play devil's advocate, the problem with players taking a different action than the one the think they “would always do” is that they may be wrong in trying to not take advantage. For example, say I think that I would always take a certain action, but think that others would take a different action that is not suggested by the UI. Say that, if one were to take a poll, one would find that everyone would take the same action as I would. Now, I have taken an action no one would take. If I get a bad board, I am at a disadvantage. If I get a good board, it could still be adjusted.

I believe the main reason that it is not seen much is that in clubs and at tournaments, it was not feasible back when the results were hand scored, so it became the standard. Even as the capability to score IMPs came along, as in any area, there is always much resistance to change.

Barry, sorry about putting “my” interpretation, it was late. How about “another”?

If they wanted your interpretation, they could have put “only”, but if they wanted my interpretation, they could have put “at least”. So it seems that it IS ambiguous. My experience has been that it has been taken to mean “forcing for at least one round”. I believe the idea is that the opponent need to know that the auction could end before the 4th hand had a chance to bid again.

The part you posted is not the committee decision. It is the basis of the appeal, it was written by the appellant.

Starkowski meant his 3 bid to show spades, but, according to Kwiecen, it is a transfer, and therefore asks for a heart stopper. They didn't have their system notes with them, and would have had to produce them if it had mattered.

We get them started right away no problem. Again, I've used your software, but don't know how it handles teams that want to play up, teams that don't want to be bumped down, etc.

Jeff, you should be around the start of a team game with over 150 teams. Keeping up with all of these special request would be a logistical nightmare.

I would roll it back, and have on many occasions in this situation.

I did not give any instruction to discourage it, and, while I was around the selling station, it did not sound like they were trying to kill it, although I was not around that much, as I had much to keep track of. If this happened while I was away, I am disappointed with the staff.

Why not use AcblScore?

I think it is an overbid that we were actively trying to kill it. It was clear that it would be a small event, we were just letting players know that it would be small. At least that was my impression of what was said.

We bracket all teams, from the top, and get no complaints.

Houston tried the 3 session KOs as an alternative to the 4 session ones that were dwindling. Now that the Bracketed Swisses have became popular, I don't think there is a viable KO format.

Gordon,
Bracketed RRs have become very popular in my part of the US(Texas). The lower level players LOVE playing against their peers and not having to play against the better players. It is much more popular than a Open Swiss, or even a Flighted Swiss.

Jeff,
One reason to decide how many teams per bracket ahead of time is to be able to have the tables set with the boards. Having to board the tables after the brackets are set is a lot of work to do right at gametime, especially with the players trying to find their seats.

Nicolas,
Have you implemented a way to keep track of teams that want to play up, and teams that don't want to be bumped down?
