I received this lovely tribute from her non bridge friend Jean with permission to post it here:
=========

I met Margie in 2012. She and I moved into the same apartment building in Miami. We bought the same apartment, 10 floors apart .

Oh, how she loved the view….that panoramic view of the water, the boats, the skyline. We sat on her balcony and talked for hours. We swam and exercised together, had dinners together, had vodka together and we talked. We talked about everything.

Margie was larger than life. She had such a big personality, She was funny, astute, charming, deeply understanding and nonjudgmental. She was grateful. She was wise and open hearted. She was generous.

She looked at the world in her own way and she encouraged me to do the same, to think outside the box. When I got stuck, she would say to me, “ You’re not hearing me pussy cat. Let’s start again from the beginning….”

She was an observer of human nature. She accepted imperfection in others but challenged it in herself.

She saw the good in people and forgave their frailties. She knew how to love, to accept and how to adjust herself to what was possible. She knew how to wait, how to play the long game . She taught me all of that too, at least, she tried .

I learned so much from her.

We had the privilege of a true loving, friendship. We were glad of our alikeness and respected our differences. She was a true companion of my heart, my confidant, my champion and I was hers.

We believed in each other, encouraged each other and kept our hopes high together.

I will miss her voice, her laugh, her sharp , beautiful mind.

Rest in peace, my beloved friend. May your memory be a blessing for all of us who knew you and loved you.

The woman's KO did not die, it was killed by the schedule.

When the Spingold and Senior Swiss started on the same day. Plus all those mini Spingolds … It was the addition of the Senior Swiss that killed it in my opinion.

Jackie was wonderful and a great “mom” to my caddy son.

Many years ago when my son Paul was 14 and caddying at a Washington DC Nationals, I had an unexpected day off and decided to go visit my 89 year old aunt with Paul in the Shenandoah Valley for the day. Naturally Paul, being a teenager, did not want to come with me. Jackie overheard our argument and promptly fired him for the day, telling him in no uncertain terms to go visit his great aunt. We are both very grateful to her for that!

Thank you for everything Jackie, you will be greatly missed

Steve said to say HI to Crazy Nat. He is not on here often nor is he very sociable but I will PM you his email address

Yes he is a hand hog but I love him enough to let him get away with it :)

I was once playing in the Master Mixed Teams with Helgemo. After a few rounds he turned to me and said, “Kitty when you are playing with me you do not have to steal all the hands.”

My Steven? He took up the game as a teen (played with his Dad) but quit for 20 years, was already an LM when he quit at about 30. So yeah he won his first National in his 50s …

In my experience very few make it to the top ranks who were not at least exposed to the game as teenagers or in college

It is interesting that the six other times 4 was the contract, every other West defending cashed the AK first.

Next three Wests tried cashing A (in fairness one heard partner open 1), one tried another (as did helgemo defending 5), and only two found the shift, Sadek and Brink.

this is as reported by the BBO archives http://www.bridgebase.com/vugraph_archives/vugraph_archives.php

Niels you do not know what you are talking about. Most experts play that 4 is an inquiry over this 3NT as to range and hand type, thus East shows about an opening hand not wanting to miss a slam when partner jumps to 3NT

Yes luckily right sided however

Some of us just prefer playing IMPs whenever possible. Especially as we age, less grueling, usually
