“Don't Start Me Talkin'” (apologies to Sonny Boy Williamson, The New York Dolls, et al) about the disparate treatment of “known” players vs. the average players. It happens in ethical cases, frequently, in addition to behavioral ones.

There was a separate sign-in for BoG and Membership mtg. Maybe I should have noticed, but when I signed in for BoG, I was not told I also needed to sign the Membership list. I figured it out, when I say the orange circles some people had, so went back out and signed the other list. But it was definitely not made clear.

In addition, evidently the lists were removed when the meeting started, so stragglers couldn't sign in. When the number were counted, It was something north of 150. After a few questions were raised, the Membership part of the meeting was attempted to be shut down by Mr. Whipple, due to not having a quorum. A stink was raised and, ultimately, a headcount in the room was taken. It was still less than 200, so that was that.

Very disappointing.

Too bad not enough ACBL members present at the NABC cared to attend.

I plan to walk over to Trader Vic's to see if I there's a werewolf drinking a piña colada. (only for the Boomers - are you here, Ira?)

Rooms at the Marriott were available on Expedia a few hours ago for $126/night from Wed, 1 Aug to Sun, 5 Aug. I didn't check any other nights. It's non-refundable, however.

I provided my Marriott Rewards number when I made my reservation with OnPeak. I am Gold with Marriott. I found that OnPeak had not passed my Marriott Rewards number to the hotel, when I logged into my Marriott account. I had to call the hotel and ask for In-house Reservations. I was then able to confirm bed choice, etc. with them. I didn't have a problem after that. I would think they would be even more helpful to people with Platinum status.

I don't know if all the bed choices are locked down, but they should be able to get your roommates names added. You also will have access to the Concierge Lounge.

I would recommend MARTA, as well, especially if you would be leaving the airport between 3:00 and 7:00. Rush hour in ATL is pretty bad. I'd expect for Uber to take close to 45 min.

There's a MARTA station across from the Hyatt (where the previous NABCs have been held). The Marriott is one block behind the Hyatt, so about 2 blocks from MARTA.

Sure, given that 3 is 2 suited. I was referring to the possibility that this was not their actual agreement and North assumed it was natural. Likely that was not the case, but when people play different systems with different people, sometimes they mis-remember.

If both partners were on the same wavelength, then clearly, it would not be intended as natural.

WK: It's fine to play whatever system you want. Plenty of great players played a similar system 60+ years ago. Hopefully, the negative comments were just meant to get you to clarify your system (given than it's different from the current standard) when you post a problem.

Now my $0.02: You didn't just bid 7 over 5, so clearly weren't sure about 7 unless partner had the K. When you asked for specific kings, and partner denied any non-Ks, you have no more positive info than you had after 5. If you were to bid 7 now, and if partner had broken tempo at all, there might have been an ethical problem. If you want to be in 7 opposite no K, just bid it over 5.

Not clear you needed the qualifier at the end.

Nor me. I did get the ACBL Live survey, though.

Maybe he's entitled to bid. But, maybe the 3 bidder was the one who forgot. I'd like to look at their CC.

Sounds like a UI situation where 5 should not be allowed.

Georgiana said: “Al, I think your chemistry professor was my calculus professor. He would write with his right hand, and move along the board erasing with his left hand as he went.”

I had a substitute math professor who taught some of my classes a time or two (he was an older guy who taught at a community college, but filled in for the professors at my university, when needed). He wore an old suit that hadn't been cleaned in awhile. He would write with his right hand and erase with his left SLEEVE as he was writing.

Assuming 4 is a xfer, 4 can be both minors.

I play that with a “punt” hand (i.e., no fit, 4th suit not stop), I rebid the cheapest suit I have previously bid. So for #3, it is an easy 3.

With a minimum, I would always raise s with 1354, so on this auction, 3 can't be that. Thus, without discussion otherwise, 3 is this type hand. Therefore, I have to bid 3 with #2, as well. and if I get the opportunity, offer s next.

Correct. A “friendly” amendment to the fragrance motion was proposed, IIRC, and it was not accepted. We did not vote on a “smoke” odor, or if we did, it was not passed.
