It would have been better for the Italian Federation to weed out players like Buratti-Lanzarotti and Fantoni-Nunes and not having them represent internationally. Almost every medal by the Italian Open Team after 1990 is now tainted.

Having Zuchelli coaching juniors is beyond stupid, it is a disgrace.

Put the blame where it should reside.

Young people like to have fun. Why not psyche? Him being tall or short doesnt matter, body strength and temperament might.

I joked about Buratti. That might have started The rumour.

A question for the press conference. “Mr Rona. You were president for the Italian Bridge Federation 1986-2009. Did you ever see any problems having Sergio Zuchelli coaching the Junior Team 1988 (Inluding Fantoni-Nunes)? Was there a discussion in Italy about the consequences of this choice?”

Rereading chapter 4 i notice a loophole. It is possible to strike off a person depending on the severity of their offense. So FS and FN can just disappear from all resultat. That would be neat.

According to the disciplinary code that is not an option.

WBF has a similar disciplinary code. We can only hope these cheaters can be stripped of titles based on other regulations!

Reading the EBL disciplinary code gives the impression that retroactively removal of titles is not possible. That is an interesting question to both the WBF and the EBL! Do we have to live with the tainted results forever?

Comparing with 5 other perennial contenders reveals that 3 out of 5 times another team has the same pattern. None of the other 4 has a similar pattern any year.

Edited. Further examination shows that 2002 all the contenders where similar. No noticable difference. for the other 6*4 comparisions. One nation has 4 out of 4 extreme delta values. One nation has 3 out of 4 (but the delta between first and second part is only half as big). 4 nations has no noticable delta.

Good luck Denmark. Especially of course my old partner Kasper and recent teammate Soren. I average quite the score mp-wise with Kasper. Sample too small for analysis though.

That is also valid. The thing is when you lead hearts you assume partner has an honor. There is basically never an advantage leading low.

Funny how that junior team connects the dots. 3 amazingly successful players coached in their youth by Zuchelli.

Must be a natural step in Italy to have convicted cheaters coach their juniors? Is Buratti doing it now?

It does not take a genius to know who of the successful players are honest and who are not. Great players are logical and intuitive. What they have in common is that they make logical choices that sometimes lead to bad results.

Playing the great players like JM, BH, GH, BB and PF you notice they are extremely good. They are totally competent. They are scaringly good. However they make wrong choices based on bridge logic.

Playing Fantunes I never got the scaringly good impression. Never the total competence. Bridge for them was difficult. Only thing is they never make wrong choices based on bridge logic. There were problems they never had to solve. “Did partner lead a singleton?”. “Was that an attitude or was he forced to play it?”. “Is partner max or minimum?”

It would be good to hear from the Italian federation and their top players. How could this go on for so many years? Noone noticed? Really? And now no comment.

Having played 8-11 2/2-openings showing unbalanced and no 4+major for years at the highest level I would rule on the unplayable side for the Fantunes 2-bids. Our 2/2 also denied 55+ patterns unless bad suits. A wider range and possibility of a major is very difficult to handle.

Our 2/2 opener was not a net minus but not a great point winner either. It hinders getting to good partscores and some close games. The upside is of course making opponents start at the 2-level. Knowing partner has no major is also a major advantage when deciding whether to compete or how high.

1/1 showing 8-11 and possible canape is a major winner. It is mentally difficult for your opponents when you open 1Major a lot. There are a lot of other advantages also.

Magic Diamond is a very easy system to learn also.
