Is this a trick question? :)

Agree with John. Pard just took any wind out of the sails with his splinter in your best asset.

Just seems a bit myopic to bypass this good a suit for my tastes, even playing Walsh.

I'm sure there must be merit to it, but my curiosity about the obligation to inform opps remains, since they would otherwise never dream it was a possibility. Any directors out there who would care to clarify?

Let's not discount the fact that 3 expert players voted for that lead in the poll. I am coming around to thinking it was a great lead and wish I'd thought of it (but know I wouldn't have). You actually remembered the hand? It is from 6 months ago. I am impressed.

sorry ken (and all) - see write up alongside hand. I think that's about right finally.

So, how did you come up with your lead?

When I first looked at this hand, it seemed that pard could have a lot of minimum openers which produce game opposite mine, and that therefore a 3S bid was prudent. But on reflection, I decided that partner really would have reason to count on me for more than I actually have, plus we could well be too high at the 3 level if he had something like say 3 bare aces. Too many xxxx to cover here, and too many hands where my jump could put us in the minus column. Put some meat into the dia suit, maybe T98 or something instead of all those deuces, and I could be persuaded to upgrade to a 3S bid. I will gladly bid game over any other action partner might make and expect he will be pleasantly surprised with my “extras.”

I am fascinated that 3 people have voted on this hand given the auction :)

I think this may come down more to “a matter of style” than anything. I would double, but I would not be upset if a partner passed. If I passed and pard reopened with a double at his next turn, do I bid diamonds or hearts? Seems the immediate double brings the heart suit into play at my first opportunity, and gets the hand of my chest.
