Ray,

Thanks for your comments. By “Hawaii”, I was referring to the financial performance.

As for reducing the number of districts, I tried to approach that in the question about the size of the board.

I certainly want new candidates to be part of the process, but without a public airing of the positions of a candidate, the general membership will still not know who is reform-minded.

If you really want this accusation to be taken seriously, then:

1) Provide a motive - what possible reason would there be for the bot programmer to do this? Unless the BBO Bots have achieved sentience, they don't care if your contract succeeds or fails.
2) Provide some evidence - do an experiment of some number of hands and show that pauses correlate to hands where changing cards between defenders would have had an effect on the outcome, i.e. the Woolsey Standard.

Let your District Directors know that you are lobbying your Unit Board electors to make this a election issue in the next District Director election.

I'm hoping that those that read this bring it up to their District Director regardless of whether the Director a BW reader or not.

I was at the game. It was the most exciting match I have ever been at. As for the second goal, he was even with the ball and onside.

In the post-match interview on Fox, he said, “The crowd was chanting ‘We want Zlatan’, so I gave them Zlatan.”

I memorialized the worst one against me in a blog post:

I've only played against Richard a small number of times, but my experience from that gives me great confidence that he and his teammates will represent the US well and with great class.

You would lose your bet. When I inquired to a director about when we would know the qualifier list, she explained that they were working on combining the databases and that it would take some time. While I would like to see the process get better, I've never had problems getting information out of the directing staff.

I agree with everyone that by having all tables be careful, there should be no problem. But in order to ALMOST idiot-proof the system, the BridgeMates could display:

Board Your N/S Score Your E/W Score IMPS
/*list of scores here*/

Your Team wins/loses by XX IMPS for YY VP's.
Approve?

I participated in this event as well (finished ahead of Yu by a massive 1 VP). I think it would be great to have all Swiss run this way.

One area for improvement is that when the last score of the round is entered, the pairings were made with no chance for score corrections and the BridgeMates didn't confirm how it had scored the matches (fortunately, there were no problems with that in this event). I would like to see after a match is completed, the BridgeMates display the IMP comparison for the match with each team then able to confirm at their home table. This would add some time, but I think it would be offset by the removal of confusion if someone mis-entered a board and added a bunch of unearned IMPs to a team.

Bridge CCAnalyser (http://bridge.esmarkkappel.dk/) says that with a known 6 or 7 card suit with West, running the 10 is the best play for either four or five tricks.

This really isn't a matter for a poll, just reading the laws:

Law 64A.2
When a revoke is established and the trick on which the revoke occurred was not won by the offending player then, if
the offending side won that or any subsequent trick, after play ends one trick is transferred to the non-offending side.

Session 6, Board 18 was after an aggressive preempt by the opponents that struck gold.
Session 8, Board 28 was an invitational sequence after a notrump opening

These two boards cannot contribute to an evaluation of their relay methods.

@Giovanni: France had automatic qualification as the host of the event, which did not count against the Europeans zone's six allocated slots. So the top six teams, not including France, qualified from the Euro Championships.

@Spencer: There used to be a provision for the defending champion to Bermuda Bowl but that was eliminated after the 1977 BB where the Defenders from USA met the North American team (also from USA) in the finals.

This is not unique to bridge. From the US Chess Federation website:

Cell phones are just one of many disturbances in a modern chess hall. Because they are so omnipresent, penalties for keeping your cell phone on are extremely harsh. In some tournaments, you lose the game immediately. In most USCF tournaments, you lose a chunk of time for the first infraction, and the game for a second.

And also from Chess.com:

Ponomariov’s cell phone rang during his game for the Ukrainian team versus Sweden in the Euro Team event being held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He was immediately disqualified by the arbiter Demirev.

“A marathon for your mind” - what an amazing metaphor by that youngster. The ACBL needs to trademark that immediately.

Any potential BIT was not what I was referring to as UI. If opener forgot their agreement or they hadn't discussed outside cards, then the explanation is UI.

“If partner thinks I don't have a side king and can still bid 5, then maybe I should be 6.”

With that being said, I find the arguements that IF there was a BIT that it doesn't carry a connotation or even suggests passing over bidding to be wholly unconvincing.

I think you may have missed the main point with the director which is whether the raise to 6 may have been based on UI.
