And as a student, I use those all the time. Maybe I wouldn't be a horrible writer if Karen was my teacher.

The fact that the Fall NABC starts on Thanksgiving has never made sense to me. Thanksgiving is supposed to be a holiday celebrated with family and not all family members play Bridge. As a student, I have had the opportunity to go to every Fall NABC since I have Thanksgiving week (or at least Wednesday-Sunday of that week) off from school. However, I'm only going for the first time this year and that was after my parents reluctantly let me skip Thanksgiving with them to go (we are having a Thanksgiving a day earlier, but it's obviously not the same).

It's just a bad time of year because it's the beginning of the holiday season. Even one or two weeks before would be fine, but not over Thanksgiving.

But if you're not in it for the karma, then what are you even in it for?

As long as there's a Bridge r/circlejerk, I'm in.

I thought he was referring to one of my favorite movies, Airplane!. “Excuse me ma'am, I speak Jive.”

I'm sure there are cheaters in Antarctica. No way those guys can play a clean game in those conditions.

Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and John Goodman? I know they've each individually done serious roles before, but this movie won't last 10 minutes before it becomes a barrage of adult humor. Which is my favorite movie genre, so I am all in on this. Too bad the plot won't get its full recognition.

You know Team LeBron was destined for 2nd when they chose that name. Should have gone with Team MJ!

I don't think I'd be able to finish the set in which that hand was played because I'd be thrown out for punching the 5S bidder. That's just ridiculous. What a joke.

If Roger Goodell was involved in this, he'd be suspended for three years but someone who kills an opponent would be out for two tournaments.

Every major tournament is 1-64, 2-63, etc. You see it in sports all the time. Even though that theoretically makes the path for higher seed teams easier, upsets happen often, which is what makes it so enjoyable. The thrill of a big upset like a 60 over a 5 is something you wouldn't have in the Chess format. And in the end, it evens out. If you're a low seed team who does well, you'll be a higher seed next time around, whereas high seeds who don't do well will be lower seeds next time around. The way it is now is the standard and I think the best way.

Partner actually showed up with AJ9xx - Jxx - xx - Qxx, so we bid and made 4S after a 1NT overcall. She wouldn't have passed if it got passed to her.

I actually went with 1NT at the table. I want a better 4 card Major if I'm overcalling it, personally. Pass was my second choice.

If you double, what do you do if partner does not have a 4 card Major and therefore bids 2C?

As a former dealing machine operator, I've heard this and have ignored it every single time. The dealing machine runs too fast for anyone to gain an unfair advantage. It takes about 8 seconds for a board to deal itself. I'm usually preparing the next deck of cards in that time. Additionally, I deal a set a few days before the game in which that set is used. I can't remember anything from what I dealt by doing that, and I'm 21. No one for anyone to get a leg up on the competition.

I'm lucky to get to play against Andrew and Richard almost every weekend as a part of the wonderful program provided by the USBF. Not only are they great players, but they're also great guys. They never let a bad result get to them and they're as nice as can be. I have always admired seeing what they can accomplish and cannot wait to see their names more often as the national titles start to pile up. Congrats guys, you deserve it.

I have always criticized Romo for fading when it matters most, but I have to give him props for how he played this year. Dude's a warrior and deserves to win more often.

Kevin, Ben, Michael, and Edmund all have a bright future in Bridge. It's been an honor to play against them for the past few years. Good luck this weekend guys!
