At least there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Mets. The Jets are doomed for eternity.

I was saying bidding 3NT over 3C - not bidding 3H. I can't fault 4C over 3S either.

It's not the best partnership practice, but the best route to 6NT might start with S bidding 3NT over 3C with what rate to be double stoppers in the two suits has expressed doubt in. Unless N is strongly pulling for a C slam at this point (since a H fit has theoretically be denied), he might just blast 6NT over 3NT.

Granted, the other direction can make three slams (two of which are on a hook, and the other is a more difficult trump position), but that was not a good time to go for that number.

Great run by my friends in USA2. I know that loss will be tough to swallow, but considering this all began on the final board in the trials a few months ago, there's nothing to be ashamed of.

According to the bulletin, both 4th segments will be on VuGraph because as you said, they will finally have the bandwidth to broadcast it.

Newspapers have also become an afterthought of an industry in this day and age, and more and more of them are now just producing content online rather than print. Tracking down articles becomes a much more difficult task that way.

I don't think too many Juniors mind about that publicity, though. To us, the Bridge Bulletin is what Rolling Stone is to everyone else. That and social media are enough.

The Internet struggles to detect sarcasm but even that was detectable from about 20 miles away.

I played with Curt during not the last but the one before that New Orleans NABC (2010?). I'm pretty sure Ben was playing with Burke at that point, and I've known Burke since 2008. We're old.

Both plausible, but as Arjun did message me at 5 Chinese time one day, I wouldn't put it past him either :)

Thanks Dave. Just needed one more day and we could have taken a crack at the whole enchilada.

Arjun's track record speaks for itself and he is also a very patient and thorough teacher. I highly recommend him.

What if BBO were to be improved upon to be like Fortnite or any of those other big computer games where we'll either play or watch for hours? If it basically became a giant video game, the social aspect could be had online instead of in-person.

And for the record, I am a Junior who has tried to raise local interest in Bridge, and have really not gotten anywhere. That's why I took my position, because the classic ones have not worked well for me in the past.

None of the above. You can't make Bridge attractive to young people unless you speak their language, which these days, is centered around technology. Just using cards won't be enough.

That's a good point, Chip. I'd venture to say I've learned almost as much in the past 21 months of working as I did in school. Knowing how to learn and where to go when stuck is worth its weight in gold sometimes.

Hi Chip, congrats on your latest victories and thanks for being in the Well. As a recent CS grad from one of the bigger public universities in the U.S., I'm curious what you think about the CS curriculum in schools today and whether it's appropriate enough for young professionals entering the IT world. As we all know, technology changes at the speed of light and it's sometimes difficult for materials to keep up. Additionally, grad school is no longer being viewed as necessary by employers for entry-level positions because they have such a need to get stuff out ASAP to stay competitive in the market. I think this logically breaks down into two questions:

1. What are schools doing well and what they can improve upon with regards to the undergrad CS curriculum?

2. What should students be doing in addition to their coursework, internships, etc. to stay knowledgeable and ready for when they enter the professional world?

His goal from 40 yards out yesterday was insane.

In a similar vein, Yordan, I remember a hand from the Junior championships in 2012 where Kevin Dwyer psyched a 1S overcall (he did have 5, in his defense) and played it there doubled, going down 6 after managing to score a trick. 6NT is cold, so his -1400 won an IMP.

John, one of my favorite Bridge stories comes from kibbing the U21 Final not last trials but the one before that (2015). Both sides get to 5C, which can go down 1 on good defense. It slips through the cracks and makes. At one table, they get doubled for +750. Looks good, right? Lose 6 (5CXX =).
