I started reading the Bulletin online when I went to college because I never changed my address (not really a point in updating it every year for 4 years) and so the hard copy kept going to my house when I wasn't there. I've never had a problem with that and still continue to read it online now, even though I'm at a permanent address at the moment. As Josh pointed out, we're moving in a direction where physical print is dying and so it's pretty natural for us Juniors to read the Bulletin and similar magazines online. With the exception of Sports Illustrated (because my dad is a subscriber) and the sports section in the Sunday paper, any news I'm interested in reading comes online. That's the way our society is heading and I have no problem supporting it.

So, to answer the question in a succinct manner, I'd gladly pay less for a Junior membership since I'm not using the hard copy of the Bulletin anyway.

You're the man, Dave. Thanks for all you do for me and the rest of the Junior program.

I agree with #7. Your team is more mature than me, and I'm older.

No. They're never playing in the ACBL again.

I'm pretty sure he's joking. He's mocking that us Americans don't get the metric system at all since it's not the standard here, which is (sadly) true for the majority of our country.

Surprisingly, Phil Gordon (4th in the 2001 WSOP Main Event and multiple-time NABC event winner) doesn't have a bracelet. I just assumed he did until I went to his Wikipedia page.

I actually play something similar with a few partners when there's no interference. We play that 1H-P-1S is a transfer to a semi-forcing 1NT and 1H-P-1NT is the same thing as 1S. The thinking is that in the case of S, it rightsides the contract more often than not. And with our semi-forcing 1NT, we can now duck out in 2x easily with this method when opener was planning on passing 1NT (1H-P-1S-P-1NT (wants to play 1NT)-P-2x). It works well for us.

We use everything but the opening lead feature on our Bridgemates. That is a very interesting point, though. I'll definitely bring this up to my club manager so this cannot possibly occur.

Like everyone else is saying, there is an option to disable the percentages. Our club used to have them on for all non-special games and some people (including me to a strong extent) complained about it to the point of them turning it off completely. It wasted too much time because everyone at the table had to know what the percentage was and then discussed what they could have done to get a better percentage. I mean, that can't possibly wait until after the game, right?

Has a 1 vs. 16 upset ever happened in a major Bridge event? I'm using college basketball as a comparison, where it's never happened.

I think the Nickell team plays very well after coming off of a loss. After the Vanderbilt performance, Meckwell won the Pairs event and then they finished second in the Swiss. Maybe they'll use that early exit and their doubters to fuel their fire to victory. You can never count them out.

As a member of the USBF training program, what the Rosenbergs do for Junior Bridge is unbelievable. They have gone above and beyond when it comes to keeping the younger generation not only interested in playing Bridge but also playing at a high level.

I wasn't sure, so I just made a forcing bid to keep this auction open. Our methods are pretty limited.

What I meant was had I said 4, I wouldn't make a poll because I knew my bid was highly responsible for the result. Doesn't mean I wouldn't screw up as East.

Thanks for the nice encouraging words, Chris. I agree with everything you've said and try to do the same as a good partner.

As for my 5 bid in your earlier comment (just noticed it now), I did consider blasting 6 (never 6NT). Maybe I just need to take a risk and hope I'm not off two Aces, and if I am, ask why he took up all of my room to stay out of it.

Of course. He acknowledged he didn't know what was perfect and wanted to hear what others had to say. I wouldn't have made a post if that wasn't the case. I don't go on BW looking to lose partners (but maybe that isn't a bad idea in more than few cases). Maybe it should have been designed as just a general discussion instead of ATB to look at better bidding sequences instead of just having people rip on my partner. That's probably what I should have done.

If I was East, 4 wouldn't have existed, but that doesn't mean I would have gotten the final contract right either. Trust me, you can leave it to me to screw up an auction. The intent of this poll was not to rip my partner for what everyone is calling a “poor bid.” I agree, Bridge is a partnership game, and to make any vitriolic actions to affect that is asking for trouble. We already had our discussion on how we could have done better on this hand. I wanted to see how everyone here would approach it. I'm not trying to flame a war. I realize one of my earlier comments did not show my true intentions, and apologize for that. I often forgot to think before I speak/type.
