If there was nothing other than the hesitation to alert the player that there was a purely mechanical error, and the director believes it was in fact a mechanical error, then he should allow the call to be replaced.

I had a similar one once where the auction has started:
1 - (1) - 2 - (3)
My partner, the 1 opener, eventually bid 4NT, I responded key cards and he bid 6. About a minute later I was still trying to figure out what he was angling for with 6 when he realized he had just pulled the wrong card from the box. He summoned the director, who surprised me be allowing him to change his call. This was also in a side swiss at an NABC.

Sam Dinkin and I like to use 4 as optional KC for hearts in GF auctions.

Whatever it means, I'm not passing it, and I'm not bidding 5 here unless I have the A.

I like 2 as limit, sometimes with other options (weak with spades can go there for example) and 2 as GF

Put it on the side table, which should be next to every table with a screen. Which *SHOULD* be every table in play at every NABC+ Event. How far behind the Europeans must the ACBL continue to lag?

I think that the primary purpose of convention cards is so that unscrupulous players can peak at their agreements. I want them off the table. Hand it to the opponents solves your issue and mine.

Once Stevens retired, she should have replaced him, so we could continue to have a bridge player on the court.

@Georgiana, yes, and this whole thread is a good example of this. I think we've killed this one to death. Time to move along.

“Could be short” might be an inadequate description, but if it was NF, it was also sufficient under the rules. I alert our 1 bids that could be short, but my partner prefers to announce “could be as short as zero,” which, if zero, you gotta have another 5-card suit somewhere, right? So I suppose is slightly less inadequate.

Clubs leads almost certainly came from the other side. East has a fairly natural club…

It only goes down 71 places and the event leaders from Day 2, Greco/Hampson are missing.

Could be right to pass, but that is a bit craven.

So we should take the Spingold and the Vanderbilt off the calendar, too, as they water down other events. This is the first fall national I've attended in about 15 years, and the Soloway was the main reason my partner was interested in doing this one. If it wasn't there, I'd be at home right now.

I see. North was declarer. So the partnership de-merit goes to Paul.

Soloway KO could easily be the best NABC event on the calendar. It drew 94 teams right after Thanksgiving while in conflict with an open 2-day pair event. That tells me it is a huge success and could help increase attendance. The field for the Soloway was very strong.

Also… did Nic lay the spades down on the right with a known fit and a contract of 6NT? Who does that?

You gotta admire his nerve to appeal this one, though.

There is a very good case that F1 is better than NF. You can afford F1 with a hand like xx xx Kxx KQJxxx, winding up in 3; but you cannot afford XX on x xx AQxx AKJxxx and have the auction come back to you with LHO bidding 3.

Robsons system notes aren't standard. It might be a better way or not, I haven't put much thought into it, since it is low frequency. As low frequency, defaulting to natural is best for me, as there is nothing to remember. And there I am, back to an unpassed hand bidding a new suit at the 3-level, and thinking that the standard treatment of that is forcing.

I don't think you can site BWS and extrapolate standard from that. There is also the “unlimited hand introduces a new suit at the three level” thing, which to me says GF.
