I can live with either. The main benefit of 10/3 is that the dinner break is as long as you want it to be and you can drink. The main drawback is that lunch is very awkward and short. If there are decent, nearby, quick food options, then 10/3 is a winner.

We relay players think this problem is adorable.

The reason they did this is that the spade cue is the highest. But there probably is no “best” meaning for 3NT here… all the equity is in tiny margins so long as you're not using for something dumb.

The law says merely that it is possible to know that it could possibly be good. Just the possibility that you could know that it could possibly work is enough.

Here, bidding an insufficient 1 in order to be able to stop in an otherwise impossible to reach 2 is not a borderline case anyways. It very easily is within the range of things that should be adjusted if it damages the NOS.

Not quite. It merely requires that the player could have known it would benefit his side, a rather low bar.

If North being barred damages E/W, the director should also adjust.

Also, double could be light 3-suited, but those hands would not open 1.

I probably would like a heart lead vs 4 but a diamond lead vs 3NT. I can't tell where they're going yet…

When I played with Floyd, 2 would have denied four spades, which would make 4 on the 3=7 shape live. I'm not sure now, but I'd be tempted to bid 4 against a standard pair and pass vs a precision pair.

I used 2 over the 1M as GF non-relay, but with structured responses:
1M - 2; - ??
2 = No 5-card suit
2M = 5 cards in M, not 5=5
New suit = 5+ natural, 4CM
2NT = any 5=5

After 2 or 2M, 2NT is forcing, partner bids a 4-card side suit if they have one.

In some partnerships, after a 5-4 was shown, the next step asked for remaining shape.

I assume partner thumbed 2 for emphasis (or similar)

Once 3 guarantees a major, you're better off having opener respond 3 whenever they don't have a 5-card major and you'll spill less information.

Q1A: A direct 3 bid prevents LHO from bidding 3 and 3 as well, so is just always better than a slow 3 bid, so I'd never bid the slow one.

Q1B: I have no idea. It is weird.

Q1C: No.

Q2A: The direct 4 shows a 1-loser suit and no outside control

Q2B: Yes; I cover 5 outside losers and can fill in the trump suit.

It depends on the agreement, John. If the agreement is that 7222 is allowed, then 8221 is not a gross distortion. If the agreement is “No 5-card suits in 1NT” then it is.

The conditions say we agreed to play all jumps as fit showing. Then you ask what a jump means. Fit showing. That's what you agreed and that's what you're playing. You don't get to chose to change an agreement mid-hand because you don't think it makes sense. Save that for between sessions.

All vul is the worst. You need a good reason to balance vs a minor partscore Vul at MPs.

I have 6 HCP and 10 losers. Partner is a passed hand. The opponents are about to play a minor suit partial. Color me content.

Right, missed that. So one threatening lead from each side, but as a practical matter it is being declared from South.

Also, 6 is almost cold (is cold from North, good luck going that though)
