I would also like to know why a housing bureau is necessary. It certainly doesnt serve the members well. I suspect it has something to do with hotels not being able to manage patron members versus regular members.

There are about 400 patron members. They are all guaranteed a room at the host hotel up to a certain date. Le westin has 455 rooms. You do the math.

i have been subjected to the “claim without stating line of play” many times. often i am due a trick that the declarer waits for me to claim. i assume if it don't say it, they aren't going to volunteer to give it to me. i really do not like this and i especially don't like their impatience if i am studying the claim.

This is a good idea, but might be difficult for a pick up partnership. When opponents are asked for their convention card, they should hand it over with no comment, and no hint of annoyance or speculation on why you want the card. This happens often over natural 1nt overcalls. I know the bid is natural but i want to know what system they play for negative inferences.

pros and elites are capable of making a mistake, even if they should know the correct line of play. the difference is that the pro is assumed to not make a mistake, and the lesser player is assumed to make a mistake. this is what favors the elites. you cannot tell me otherwise.

I have hated this “class of player” rule for a long time. the laws should be the same across the board, not favoring pros and elites. the rule is that you need to make a complete claim. if the player does not do this, then i think the default is that no matter how good a player they are, they are capable of making a mistake. after all, they made a mistake on the claim.

The post title is “ethical or not”. Those are the choices.

Poor kid was raked over the coals for something he didn't do. better to get story straight to begin with, or maybe don't post it at all.

If your teenage teammate has shown bad behavior, why in the world would you post it on bridgewinners?

i agree. it would have been better to be a bidding poll without mention of hesitation.

What is the logic behind bidding 5 spades rather than 5nt?

Seems like if he didnt call the director when dummy came down and waited until after hand was played, he was taking a double shot. The undo of the double should be before the play, not after.

This gets me to thinking…even if it is michaels, why isnt advancers bid alertable, as he may only have 2?

it would help if the hand was posted. is there any chance that instead of doubling opener might have sacked in 5 diamonds if they had known the 2 diamond bid did not promise hearts? they did manage to play in diamonds at the other table. i think i would be happy that the director didn't adjust it to 5 diamonds by them. the adjustment to 4 spades is reasonable. opener wouldn't have doubled if he knew his 3 hearts were not cashing. i play baileys and we don't alert the cuebid, but we always alert pass or correct. so, if you had just bid 2 spades instead of hearts, there would be no alert and it would be up to the opponents to inquire about the cuebid.
