She never failed to be a classy and encouraging opponent. Allan summed her up well.

Everyone forgets this-only once. Like switching to transfer advances after 1M (X). All it takes is playing in a 2-2 fit one time, and the treatment is forever embedded in your brain.

Maybe I'm supposed to play a treatment I hate until I get ONE good result from it. Hope I live to be a 100…

A well deserved honor for a classy player/opponent who has achieved consistent excellence!

And for those of us who are used to relaxing when Partner bids 4M, there is “New” Mulberry where 4M and 5m are to play and 4D is a relay to Blackwood in a specific suit…

I'm thrilled to see Ifti Baqai competing at the international level after spending most of the last 25 years concentrating on family and career. Go Pakistan!

I think it is clear to bid 4S. You never know what anyone can make, so why not put maximum pressure on the opponents?

I agree with JoAnna's comment-the auction does NOT create a forcing pass sequence.

Kit-

An article in the Bridge World discussing the theme of “first rejection” caught my eye in the Bridge World about 20 years ago.
The author suggested 1x-1M-3M+1 as a game forcing balanced hand. Using this approach, Responder could make the next cheapest bid to inquire about the cheapest suit Opener would reject a short suit slam try in. This could get a little tricky when the auction proceeded 1m-1S-3NT, but besides that, I thought the treatment made a lot of sense.

Have you ever come across this?

I love the fact that this hand was played immediately after the opponents had bid a ridiculous grand slam that came home. Grace Under Fire! Way to go JS!!!

Playing with Chris was always something to look forward to. Consistently excellent play, an amazing demeanor with partners, and an unending courtesy for less experienced players.

Rest in Peace, buddy.

Playing Woolsey, I like to play that advancer's 2D bid after X asks partner to bid their short Major. You get to play in the 6 card suit and have the opening bidder on lead…2H by advance is pass or correct.

I find myself exhausted by the endless chatter about Shanghai. We could debate the merit of those actions for years but all it serves is to blur the focus of this article. I voted for Jill Meyers because she deserves to be in, embodies everything in bridge that I respect, both at and away from the table. Even if you would have behaved differently in Shanghai, get over it.
