USA II's result on 31 caused frustration and led them to suspect that France had bid and made slam at the other table, giving them the lead, which contributed to the bidding disaster on 32.

On Board 31, if relays can't get you to slam, then it's your system?!

You're telling me? I live in New York City. (Renting a cab to drive is $400/week.) The whole package is pricey. What's another couple of hundred?

The players are not refugees. They can determine if they want to attend and use technology to book rooms. Otherwise, one can just show up, rent a car, and find a room.

On Board 27, trick 7, West went wrong. And he also went wrong on Board 23, as has been chronicled here.

This edition of the Meckwell express was vulnerable, as was seen at the last Nationals when Sylvia Shi almost beat them.

Wrong. What I wrote was that it amounted to dumping, not that it was dumping.

Maybe it's a language barrier, I do not know, but I have never ever advanced a conspiracy theory and do not think that Roy has done anything wrong.

Yes, that is right. In this format, there is potential collateral damage that does not exist in a KO setting.

I mean that in order to be in a position to qualify, Germany needed an extraordinary round and they went for it.

My thoughts were along the lines of: Look at what's happening in the 17th Round. This doesn't happen in a well-planned, very strong knockout event like the Spingold.

When available, dumping has long been a legitimate tactic, especially in professional sports as the regular season comes to a close and the playoffs begin. There are two scenarios that immediately come to mind: 1) to rest the first string for the road ahead and 2) to eliminate a strong team in order to later face a weaker one that you dump to instead.

I never ever questioned the integrity of team Germany. For those, who do not know, I am always on probation here. When comments amount to disingenuous attacks on me, it's too much to play along.

Quoting myself from the original article above, I coined the expression “It amounts to dumping without collusion.”

Mike, you are correct when you write “even had these errors not occurred Germany was booked to be blitzed.” As I watched the 17th Round unfold, it became obvious that Germany was swinging on every board.
