Andrew, Unit and district officers have access to ACBL member directory. ACBL policy restricts how the information may be used, but getting address, phone number and email for everyone in a unit or district is not a problem.

Having lied about our strength the first time around, surely now we should follow up by passing a gf 3. Not!

Not objecting to your response, Ed. Simply pointing out that you need not even mention the 2 bid, let alone explain it, unless RHO asks “What did 2 mean?”

Except in this case, having played to the first trick, RHO is entitled to ask about agreements but is not entitled to a review of the auction. Unless he specifically asks about 2, I’m going to assume he wasn’t paying attention to the auction so I’ll simply call the director.

If we get knocked out in the 3rd round of a bracketed KO, we'd like to be able to drop into the second half of a Gold Rush that evening.

Sounds silly, right? But having demonstrated competence by winning the first 2 KO rounds, it's clear we would strengthen the GR field.

“most people believe that the so-called 1%-ers get the best shake out of our tax system.”

99% agree!

Thanks, all. I did Pass, without really thinking through all the repercussions, because I felt I should act in tempo.

Partner (still thinking about my 25 HCP) then chimed in with 5, which was doubled. (Wow, he never finds my second suit!) I announced the bidding accident before the opening lead. Down 1 for a good save against 4 making.

Maybe it should have been a bidding poll, but I really wanted to learn if I had done the right thing here.

Steve, I think I'd agree with you…if I could remember that far back:)

Consider the auction after a 4 opener. If South opts to pass, West will probably play 4 undoubled. If South bids 4, it will go all pass to match the table result. All upside, no downside.

On the other hand, switch the West and North hands, and EW will easily reach the optimum 4 game.

Or, give West the AQ instead of low ones, and South is -500 in 4x.

So I don't understand opening 1.

“The decision was the result of a contentious special meeting of the WBF Executive Council held during the NABC tournament in Memphis last week.” This was the give-away.

Bahar, thank you for all you did for the ACBL. I am truly sorry you did not have a chance to lead us forward and implement the big ideas.

According to the arbitration document, his employment contract allowed termination without cause on 30 days notice. One months salary could have saved thousands!

See Jeff Halle's suggestion above. Worked for me.

Gosh. After reading the first “good” - winning, I thought the second “good” might be Sean proposing. Silly me.

Let's see. You promised nothing on the first two rounds of bidding. Fully aware of that, partner Xed 5. Oh yes, that's a great time to introduce your J high suit!

Declarer's hand: Q65 T9862 K7 Q92. Declarer does not have sufficient entries to establish a trick for himself and can only come up to 8 tricks if North shifts to a .

If returning partner's shift is classified as a blunder, OP must be a fine player indeed!

I don't understand partner's lead of the 4 rather than the 2. That convinced me not to return a later.

Yes, dislike responder taking over with 4NT. If 1 key card is missing, responder cannot tell if there is a slam. If no keyxards are missing, responder cannot tell if there is a grand. 2C opener is captain here - responder provides information, does not ask questions and does not place the final contract.
