Did you know when you were targeting before you posted poll 1 and poll 2? best to get right to the point, instead of beating around the bush with polls. But you'd better provide strong evidence.

I think it's very bad for partnerships to go around thinking partner forgot our system. I haven't had this exact auction, but I have had auctions where partner thought I'd lost it.

On this construction, I'd much rather give partner the benefit of the doubt that he has remembered puppet and simply made an error in judgement - thinking the 5 level will be safe. Even if a forgotten agreement is more likely, I just can't go there if there is any plausible explanation for his bidding, such as the examples shown above.

There is a very good reason to have a smaller carryover. In IMP pairs, you can win by trouncing just a few opponents and holding your own otherwise. In this event, suppose one pair is having an off day and giving away many IMPs. Since not everyone faces everyone at the table, the qualifier results are somewhat a matter of luck.

However, I must add that Van Prooijen - Verhees did not go +3700 by trouncing only the bottom of the field. They took over 400 each from qualifiers Multon - Zimmerman and Khokhlov Matushko.

The older wording: “You play suit-preference at trick 1. 10, 9, 8 are, by priority, suit-preference high. 2, 3, 4 are, by priority, suit-preference low. 6, 5, 7 are, by priority, encouraging. ”

I may be mistaken, but I think there has been discussion elsewhere on BW whether defining specific meanings to specific spots is (no longer?) kosher.

It means even the best decisions by world class players will sometimes net you -790. No guarantees in bridge!

What? Isn't this a chance to think about declarer play and how a difficult contract might make?

Georgiy, I had exactly the same reaction - that Kit was asking whether to play the 7 or 8. Then I realized that question would be “what do you play from hand.” “What do you lead from dummy” would have clued us in!

That would be cause for disqualification from the event if it happened today. See acbl CDR.

Perhaps not that unusual, but I had this auction
1 - (2) - 3 -(4)

What does said partner expect you to do when the bidding goes (1) - X - (4) and you have a good hand with 4 spades?

If it's a game of skill, qualifying as a sport for the Olympics can't be that hard LOL.

Neat hand. It would be an ever better story if West turned out to hold KJ tight in and a 3rd

What a great use for all those leftover “Stop” cards! Red is the best color for ZT anyway.

Most Kit auctions have very close decisions with the alternatives carefully described. When the bid chosen wouldn't have been my choice, it is at least a reasonable choice.

Not this time. That takeout X is just awful, as evidenced by the tough choices on subsequent rounds.

Max, I support you. You are finding a way to make your voice heard. I'm not about to question your method because your message is an important one.

I think you need a longer time frame. Seems to me clubs would lose many players who enjoy going to NABCs and Regionals and only play at the local club to “stay tuned up”.

Was that 68-6? And without doing anything that might be classified as a horrible mistake. Yikes. Good news that the final was RR with 8 teams - please tells us you bounced back against the others to win the event anyway!

Hotel California: So that we make it 1977, assuming the prize was a newly-released album.

When they show up needing a partner, take their $$ before telling them who their match is ;)

More seriously, when I first went to the local club after moving to the area, I was paired up with someone from Jays category 1. We came in 2nd. Finding partners was never a problem after that.
