One thing I have noticed in the Basic and Basic+ charts, is that a 1 opener must show either NT shape or 3+s. Pretty much rules out playing a strong club system with 1 that “could be as short as 1.”

I sent club directors in my unit two emails detailing the major changes in the new charts, because I thought club play would be the best place for players to become familiar with the new charts, what's allowed and what's not, as a prep for NABCs & Regionals.

My emails were met with deafening silence. Asked in person and the general tone was “not interested” or “if they want to play something new they better tell me first.”

Check your unit bylaws. In most (all?) cases an election is required, regardless of the number of candidates vs. positions.

Interesting that ACBL has not sent an appeal like this to the general membership (well, at least not to me).

The most recent promo I received (Oct 9) was titled “Five Reasons to Escape to Hawaii.” Of course, to discover the 5 reasons, you have to click on a link. How dumb is that, just put the 5 reasons in the email. And, oh, “Book now - rooms are going fast.”

Well, sure, Jay has been a frequent visitor to BW, and even been in the well like our past CEO /sarcasm

Plaudits for reaching the only making slam - any way you got there! Most of the field will be in some number of spades, making only 5 on normal breaks.

Nice write-up, but if this was a favorite hand, the rest of the bridge must have been terribly boring!

Seems to me that all players should be required to play a certain percentage of every KO match.

Conditions of contest are not stated in the OP, but if this is a win/lose match, I'll bid the slam…

From the comments, it seems more likely that this is a $ match, total points. I'll bid the game to be sure I still have cab fare for the ride home.

For those that allowed 3 NT to make, this board is a great one for a novice class on defense. After south holds up twice in spades, West, having no entry, must switch to the K.

When you PVR, be sure not to learn the result before viewing!

Please tell me ACBL directors do not actually use a spreadsheet. Surely the “world class” acbl score technology has a data element for “International equivalent MPs” that, once determined, is automatically applied at game time.

Where is he director/club owner in this discussion? Is their intent is to have a club for old folks who play American Standard only? If so, find another place to play. If not, they should be counseling this individual on better behavior.

OK, that makes sense, especially at the expert level and above. Maybe I was coming from a viewpoint of less experience than most here.

Always interesting to see people try to build a better mousetrap, when good books are available from the finer minds in bridge (see recommendations above).

In the Tour de France, the maillot blanc and is awarded to the best-placed rider age under 26. Therefore Cycling is a sport for old folks;)

After the Q was covered, one commentator wrote “oh well, cancel the write up” or words to that effect.

“Some players may rush their play if they have the ace, to make it look like they don't have a problem. Some players may make an involuntary slight huddle when they don't have the ace, while when they have the ace they will never do this. This isn't exactly a coffee-house. It is a natural attempt to be deceptive when one realizes that your opponent has a problem. ”

Whoa. Altering tempo in an attempt to be deceptive is a violation of law 73D2.
